Designing Lifestyles, Not Just Layouts: Deepaum Jain’s Vision for Meaningful Spaces

When you speak with Deepaum Jain, Founder of TruQ Design Studio, one thing becomes clear very quickly: for him, design is not just about walls, materials, or layouts. It is about people. It is about listening. And most importantly, it is about responsibility.

Founded in 2012, TruQ Design Studio did not begin with the ambition of becoming just another architecture and interior firm. It began with a simple but powerful thought: Why should good design feel out of reach?

Making Design Accessible

In a country where architectural services are often seen as expensive or intimidating, Deepaum Jain wanted to change the narrative. His early motivation was clear: to make design affordable, approachable, and available beyond metro cities.

TruQ consciously extended its services to Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, places where quality architectural guidance is often limited. The goal was not just to design homes, schools, healthcare spaces, and recreational centres, but to upgrade lifestyles.

“Our vision was to reach places where services are not easily available and enrich people’s lives through better spaces,” he shares.

For Jain, architecture is not about luxury. It is about improving everyday living.

What Design School Doesn’t Teach You

Like many founders, Jain’s biggest lessons did not come from textbooks. He openly admits that professional education prepares you for design theory, not for running a firm. Today, as a founder, his role goes far beyond design. From handling clients, HR, accounts, banks, contractors, materials, and on-site execution, entrepreneurship has reshaped his perspective.

“When you see a good space, it is not just good design. It is good management,” he explains.

Architecture, he believes, demands strong coordination, patience, and the ability to balance creativity with execution. These realities are rarely taught in classrooms; they are learned in the field.

Every Project Is Personal

Unlike firms that highlight one flagship project, Jain refuses to pick favorites.

“For us, every project is like a baby,” he says. Whether it is a residence, a school, or a commercial space, each project is treated with care, detail, and emotional investment. This mindset has shaped TruQ’s identity as a studio known for timeless and personalized spaces.

But personalization at TruQ goes deeper than surface-level aesthetics.

Designing Around People, Not Trends

One of the studio’s most interesting practices is how deeply they study their clients. Before beginning the design process, Jain and his team interact with clients multiple times. They observe lifestyles, understand aspirations, and even explore social media to get a sense of personality.

“We interview the entire family two, three, four times before we truly understand them,” he shares. Only after aligning the client’s vision with their own does the design process begin. The result? Spaces that feel personal, not borrowed from trends.

The Challenge of Changing Expectations

While creativity excites him, Jain acknowledges that the biggest challenges often arise mid-project. As timelines stretch or stakeholders increase, expectations can shift. Aligning evolving demands with ongoing execution is not easy. Yet, adaptability has become a core strength of the studio.

“Managing changing demands in the middle of a project is absolutely challenging,” he says. But this is where experience and patience play a crucial role.

A Rare Commitment: After-Service Support

In an industry where handovers often mark the end of the relationship, TruQ does something unusual: they stay. The studio offers long-term after-service support, ensuring clients have guidance even after moving into their property. From operational issues to adjustments, the team remains available.

“It gives them peace of mind and also builds Trust along the way”, Jain explains.

To make things even more transparent, TruQ hosts handover events at newly completed properties, inviting past clients, current clients, and future prospects to the same space where Feedback is shared openly and criticism is accepted with maturity and grace.

“It’s daring,” he admits. “But we are not scared.” This confidence stems from a commitment to service and accountability.

Building a Team with Conviction

TruQ’s growth has also been powered by a strong internal culture. While structured hiring processes, SOPs, and screening systems are in place, Jain believes the real work begins after onboarding. Training, upgrading, and aligning the team’s conviction with the firm’s values are ongoing processes. The mission is simple: deliver honestly and make the client smile. That emotional connection is what drives the team and pushes them to go beyond just delivering a project.

Advice to Young Designers

For young architects and designers dreaming of starting their own studios, Jain offers grounded advice.

“Patience pays off.” He encourages young professionals to stay in one place long enough to truly learn, not rush into entrepreneurship or frequent job switches. Architecture, he says, is not an overnight journey.

“It takes time to get a hang of design. It’s generational.” Work. Learn. Earn. Grow. And only then lead.

Designing Trust

In a world where design often becomes about trends and visual appeal, Deepaum Jain brings the conversation back to basics, accessibility, responsibility, management, and long-term relationships. For him, architecture is not just about creating beautiful spaces.

It is about building trust that lasts beyond the final handover.

And perhaps that is what truly makes TruQ Design Studio stand apart, not just the spaces it creates, but the trust it builds along the way and the peace of mind it brings to every client.
