Mumbai, July 3 — Fertility-tech startup Luma Fertility has raised $4 million in seed funding in a round led by Peak XV’s Surge, with participation from healthcare industry stalwart Ameera Shah (Metropolis Healthcare) and investor Vijay Taparia of B2V Ventures.
Founded by serial entrepreneur Neha K. Motwani, Luma is setting out to transform how fertility care is delivered in India—combining technology, transparency, and empathy into an experience that has long been seen as opaque and stressful.
Motwani, who earlier built and scaled the fitness platform Fitternity (acquired by Cult.fit in 2021), is now addressing a deeply personal and underserved space—fertility. With India’s fertility rate now dipping below replacement levels (from 2.1 to 1.9), and IVF cycles projected to surge from 320,000 in 2024 to 550,000 by 2028, the market is ripe for disruption.
The newly raised capital will power Luma’s expansion across Mumbai, where it has launched a 6,000 sq ft tech-enabled flagship clinic in Bandra, and support its entry into new Indian cities over the next two years.
“We’re not just another IVF clinic,” said Motwani. “We’re building a platform that supports individuals and couples through every step of their fertility journey—with compassion, science, and digital innovation at its core.”
Luma offers comprehensive fertility services—from IVF and egg/embryo freezing to fertility assessments and pre-conception care. What sets it apart is its tech-first approach, anchored by an IVF companion app that provides real-time reports, journey tracking, and LumaAI, a 24/7 virtual assistant offering cycle guidance and medication support.
Beyond medical care, the platform integrates holistic offerings like nutrition, acupuncture, IV therapy, and even at-home semen testing—making fertility support more accessible and less clinical.
The Bandra clinic features a transparent open lab design and a dedicated care team for every patient, aiming to build trust in a space that has long lacked it.
Looking ahead, Luma is also doubling down on egg and embryo freezing—a fast-growing segment, particularly among urban millennials and Gen Z consumers opting to delay parenthood.
With its unique blend of technology, transparency, and patient-centric care, Luma Fertility is poised to reshape how India thinks about and experiences fertility.
