Reimagining the Diamond Story: Kabir Kate on Crafting Solitario’s Distinctive Global Brand Identity

From shaping consumer experiences to creating culturally resonant campaigns, Kabir Kate, Chief Marketing Officer at Solitario Diamonds, shares his perspective on the intersection of creativity, culture and commerce.

Introduction

In the evolving world of luxury, a brand is defined by more than the products it creates. It is shaped by the emotions it evokes, the experiences it offers and the connections it builds with consumers. As India’s jewellery landscape embraces a new generation of buyers, marketing leadership is increasingly about bringing together cultural understanding, contemporary aspirations and meaningful brand experiences.

For Kabir Kate, Chief Marketing Officer at Solitario Diamonds, this philosophy forms the foundation of modern brand building. With professional experience spanning digital marketing, premium retail, real estate and international markets, Kabir brings a multidimensional perspective to creating brands that inspire consumer interest and deliver business growth.

From Digital Foundations to Global Brand Building

Kabir’s professional journey began in digital marketing, during a period when the medium was rapidly transforming how businesses connected with consumers. His experience at DViO Digital offered exposure to diverse brands and markets, alongside the opportunity to contribute to the agency’s expansion into Dubai and the wider MENA region.

This early experience shaped his understanding of marketing as an intersection of consumer behaviour, culture and business strategy. His subsequent association with Phoenix Mills, spanning real estate and premium retail, further broadened his perspective through exposure to ATL, digital campaigns, events, celebrity collaborations and large-scale consumer experiences.

His journey eventually brought him to Solitario Diamonds, where his responsibilities expanded across India, Dubai and Malaysia, complemented by international market exposure in Spain. Over the years, he has worked towards integrating marketing, PR, digital, content, media and experiential communication with broader business objectives. Being part of a journey that saw Solitario grow from approximately ₹5 crore to ₹90 crore in 25 months reinforced his belief that meaningful marketing must translate into commercial growth. For Kabir, creativity becomes truly powerful when it builds reputation, creates cultural relevance and delivers measurable business impact.

He believes great marketing sits at the intersection of creativity, culture and commerce, with brand building extending beyond campaigns to shaping perceptions and establishing lasting credibility among consumers, media and stakeholders.

Making Marketing a Driver of Business Growth

At Solitario, Kabir’s priorities revolve around three interconnected objectives: building a distinctive brand, creating cultural relevance and delivering measurable business growth.

Rather than viewing marketing as an independent function, he approaches it as an integral part of the company’s growth strategy. Public relations, digital communication, content, retail experiences and strategic partnerships are aligned around a consistent brand narrative, allowing every consumer interaction to contribute to a larger identity.

This integrated approach is particularly significant in the luxury jewellery category, where purchasing decisions are deeply connected to emotion, aspiration and personal expression.

For Kabir, the objective is to create a brand that consumers can experience and identify with. “Consumers don’t just buy a product anymore; they buy from a point of view,” he believes.

At Solitario, this translates into making diamonds aspirational while ensuring that the brand remains approachable and relevant to contemporary consumers. Every communication platform, retail interaction and brand experience becomes an opportunity to strengthen that relationship.

Reimagining Luxury Through the Lab-Grown Diamond Narrative

The evolving lab-grown diamond category is creating fresh possibilities for how consumers discover and experience modern luxury. With younger audiences increasingly exploring individuality, self-expression and conscious consumption, the category offers an opportunity to bring a contemporary perspective to an emotionally significant product.

Kabir sees consumer education as an essential part of this evolution. His approach centres on simplifying the science, establishing confidence and communicating the value of the experience through storytelling, public relations, digital content and retail conversations.

For him, education should encourage curiosity and create clarity while preserving the aspirational character of luxury.

This philosophy also informs Solitario’s positioning. The ambition is to make the next generation of diamonds more accessible to contemporary audiences while retaining the emotional significance and desirability associated with fine jewellery.

Where Storytelling Meets Credibility

In jewellery, aspiration captures attention, but trust shapes lasting relationships. Kabir’s approach to brand communication brings these dimensions together through storytelling, transparency, product quality and consistent consumer experiences.

He views public relations as an exercise in creating relevance rather than simply generating media coverage. Strong brand narratives, meaningful leadership perspectives, launches, partnerships and consumer stories provide opportunities to participate in wider cultural and business conversations.

Equally important is the relationship between digital platforms, content and creator collaborations. Kabir approaches these channels as parts of a connected ecosystem, with each platform offering a different expression of the same brand identity.

His perspective is succinct: content builds relevance, creators build influence, and digital converts attention into action.

This emphasis on consistency allows Solitario to establish a recognisable voice across consumer touchpoints while building familiarity and credibility over time.

Campaigns That Turn Brand Stories into Experiences

Some of Kabir’s most defining professional experiences have emerged from campaigns that brought brands closer to people’s lives and cultural experiences.

The Burj Khalifa launch demonstrated the impact of scale, spectacle and creating moments that audiences genuinely want to experience. Meanwhile, the Dagdusheth Tilak campaign in Pune illustrated how cultural understanding can create meaningful connections with regional audiences. By connecting the brand with an important cultural occasion, the initiative helped introduce a new consumer audience to its stores.

Another significant initiative was Solitario’s Free Diamond on Akshaya Tritiya campaign, which encouraged people experiencing diamonds for the first time to engage with the category.

These experiences shaped his belief that effective marketing can introduce new audiences to a category, inspire fresh consumer behaviour and create memorable brand associations.

Measuring Creativity Through Commercial Impact

For Kabir, the effectiveness of marketing lies in the relationship between creative engagement and business performance. At the campaign level, he evaluates indicators such as social media engagement, return on advertising spend, customer acquisition cost and conversion rates.

He cites engagement rates of 3–5% or higher for strong social content and 2–4x ROAS for performance-led campaigns as useful benchmarks.

At a broader leadership level, his focus extends to brand consideration, customer quality, repeat behaviour, revenue contribution and return on marketing investment.

This perspective reflects his larger philosophy that marketing must contribute to both brand equity and enterprise value.

Shaping the Next Chapter of Contemporary Luxury

Looking ahead, Kabir believes India’s jewellery market will increasingly be shaped by individuality, self-expression, digital discovery and evolving purchasing habits. Younger consumers, in particular, are embracing jewellery as a personal expression, extending its place beyond traditional celebrations and special occasions.

For Solitario, this presents an opportunity to build a distinctive identity that combines India’s cultural depth with contemporary global thinking.

His vision is to establish Solitario as an Indian-born global luxury brand, representing a generation that experiences luxury through personal choice, expressive design and conscious perspectives.

Ultimately, Kabir’s approach to marketing reflects a powerful understanding of what makes brands memorable: the ability to bring together creativity, cultural insight and commercial purpose. As Solitario continues to shape its place in the evolving diamond landscape, his vision places meaningful consumer experiences and a compelling brand narrative at the centre of its journey.

For him, the future of luxury belongs to brands that understand not just what consumers desire, but also the stories, values and experiences through which they choose to express themselves.
