Apple has announced a major leadership transition, with Tim Cook set to step down as Chief Executive Officer on September 1, after nearly 15 years at the helm. He will move into the role of Executive Chairman, continuing his association with the company in a strategic capacity. The company has appointed John Ternus, currently Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, as its next CEO, effective the same date. The decision was approved unanimously by Apple’s board.
A Transformational Era Under Tim Cook
Cook took over leadership of Apple in 2011, succeeding Steve Jobs, and has since overseen one of the most significant growth phases in the company’s history.
During his tenure, Apple expanded its global footprint, strengthened its hardware ecosystem, and built a strong and recurring services business
The company also introduced key products such as the Apple Watch and AirPods
Under Cook’s leadership, Apple evolved from a product-focused company into a broader technology and services powerhouse.
John Ternus to Lead Next Phase
Ternus, who has been with Apple for nearly 25 years, currently leads hardware engineering across major product lines including:
- iPhone
- iPad
- Mac
- Other Apple devices
His deep involvement in product development and engineering makes him a natural choice to lead the company into its next phase.
Looking Ahead
With this transition, Apple is entering a new chapter, balancing continuity with change. While Cook will remain involved as Executive Chairman, Ternus is expected to take charge of day-to-day operations and drive the company’s future innovation strategy.
The leadership shift marks a significant moment for Apple as it continues to evolve in an increasingly competitive and fast-changing global technology landscape.
