19-Year-Old Zach Yadegari Raises $10 Million for AI Startup After 15 University Rejections

At 19, Zach Yadegari is building his next business after an entrepreneurial journey that began long before he reached college age. The young founder has raised $10 million for his latest venture, Persona, an artificial intelligence startup focused on making everyday tasks easier through a personal AI assistant.

The funding marks another milestone for Yadegari, who previously co-founded Cal AI, a calorie-tracking application that allows users to estimate the nutritional content of their meals by uploading photographs. The app gained significant traction before being acquired by MyFitnessPal in March 2026.

From College Rejections to Building Businesses

Yadegari came into the spotlight in 2025 after revealing that 15 of the 18 universities he applied to had rejected his applications. Despite his academic record and entrepreneurial achievements, he faced setbacks in the competitive university admissions process.

Rather than allowing those rejections to define his path, he continued pursuing his interests in technology and business. His experience highlights how entrepreneurial ambitions can develop outside conventional career trajectories, with practical experience offering a different route to learning and growth.

His earlier venture, Cal AI, demonstrated his ability to identify a consumer need and build a technology product around it. The app simplified calorie tracking by allowing users to photograph their meals instead of manually entering every food item.

Building a Personal AI Assistant

With Persona, Yadegari is turning his attention towards a broader application of artificial intelligence. The startup is developing a personal AI assistant designed to help users manage everyday activities, including taking notes, answering questions, handling emails, arranging travel and accessing services.

The company is also working on a wearable device intended to make the assistant accessible beyond a smartphone screen. The device is designed to be activated by a button or a wrist movement, rather than continuously listening to its surroundings.

Persona aims to bring multiple everyday digital tasks into a more connected experience, allowing users to interact with an AI assistant instead of switching between numerous applications.

Funding to Support the Next Phase

The $10 million funding round was led by Vine Ventures, with participation from other investors. The capital will support the development of Persona as the company works towards expanding its product capabilities and reaching more users.

The startup has also introduced an early version of its assistant, allowing users to interact with it through iMessage while development continues on its broader product offering.

For Yadegari, Persona represents a new chapter after building and exiting an earlier business at a young age. His journey underscores the role of persistence, experimentation and the willingness to pursue new ideas, even when conventional paths do not unfold as expected.

As AI-powered assistants continue to evolve, Persona’s progress will depend on its ability to turn an ambitious vision into a useful, reliable product that people can incorporate into their everyday lives.
