BENGALURU: India’s burgeoning private space sector received another boost as space-tech innovator Ulook successfully closed a funding round of Rs 19 crore (approximately $2.3 million). The seed capital infusion was co-led by prominent investors GrowX Ventures and InfoEdge Ventures, signalling strong investor confidence in the startup’s unique technological edge.
The Next Frontier: RF-Sensing Satellite Swarms
Ulook, a Bangalore-based startup, is pioneering the development of autonomous satellite swarms designed for radio-frequency (RF) sensing and spectrum awareness. Unlike traditional Earth observation satellites that rely on optical images, Ulook’s technology captures “RF snapshots”—radio frequency patterns that enable the detection, tracking, and detailed analysis of activity on the Earth’s surface.
This innovation is critical for securing and monitoring vast areas, especially in “contested environments” where conventional optical or radar surveillance methods are ineffective due to weather, visibility, or deliberate concealment.
Key Technology Focus: Ulook’s satellites are engineered to identify and track concealed radio signals, offering unprecedented spectrum awareness for applications like maritime security (e.g., tracking shadow fleets), defense, and national security.
Strategic Use of New Capital
The freshly raised funds will be strategically deployed to accelerate Ulook’s core developmental and go-to-market objectives:
- Satellite & Sensor Development: Furthering the creation of their advanced autonomous satellite and RF sensor technology.
- Platform Expansion: Enhancing the capabilities of its proprietary RF-sensing data platform.
- Market Acceleration: Speeding up the commercial launch of its unique data intelligence services.
The company is targeting an ambitious launch schedule, planning to deploy its first satellite swarms within the next 12-18 months.
Market Focus and Competition
Ulook’s cutting-edge RF-sensing data-as-a-service model positions it to serve high-value clients across several strategic sectors:
- Defense and Security
- National Spectrum Management
- Infrastructure Monitoring
- Telecommunications
The startup operates in a competitive landscape, going head-to-head with other established and rising Indian space and Earth-observation firms such as Pixxel, Satsure, Astrome, and Skyroot Aerospace. Ulook’s competitive advantage lies specifically in its focus on RF-sensing innovation over traditional imaging and launch capabilities.
This funding round solidifies Ulook’s position as a key player in India’s private space industry, driving forward the country’s capabilities in sovereign, next-generation Earth observation technology.
