Shortgun Games Raises $1 Million in Seed Round to Build India’s First Genre-Defying Third-Person Shooter

Game development studio Shortgun Games has raised $1 million in seed funding from a group of angel investors. The capital will fuel the studio’s efforts in pre-production and development of its Minimum Viable Product (MVP), while also enabling strategic, need-based hiring to expand its India-based team.

Founded in 2021 by Jeet Chandan and Vidhit Mehta, Shortgun Games is helmed by the original creators of Rogue Heist. The studio aims to revolutionize India’s presence on the global gaming map by building the country’s first genre-defying third-person shooter (TPS) for PC and consoles. Combining high production values with cinematic action and interactive storytelling, the studio positions itself at the forefront of next-gen gaming experiences.

Shortgun recently collaborated with Vicky Arora, the celebrated Bollywood action director known for his work in URI, RRR, TANAAV, and the upcoming Ramayan trilogy. This partnership aims to bring an authentic, cinematic flair to the game’s action sequences.

India’s gaming industry, valued at $5.21 billion in 2024, is expected to see exponential growth, reaching $22.53 billion by 2034, according to recent market research. Shortgun’s ambition to create globally relevant AAA-quality games from India aligns with this booming market trajectory.

“We believe the time is ripe for India to emerge as a serious contender in the global PC and console game development space,” said co-founder Jeet Chandan. “This funding will help us push the boundaries of creativity and build something that not only reflects Indian storytelling but also competes with global standards.”

With this backing, Shortgun Games joins a growing movement of Indian studios taking bold strides toward mainstream global gaming relevance.
