Neuromod Aqua Raises Pre-Seed Funding from Sportskeeda Founder Porush Jain

New Delhi-based water infrastructure startup Neuromod Aqua has raised pre-seed funding from Porush Jain, founder of Sportskeeda, as it looks to develop a factory-manufactured platform for decentralised sewage and effluent treatment. The financial details of the round were not disclosed.

Founded in 2026 by Anuj Arora and Anand Dad, Neuromod Aqua is developing modular wastewater treatment plants based on technologies including Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR), Membrane Bioreactor (MBR), and Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR). The startup aims to bring greater standardisation to the design, manufacturing, installation and servicing of wastewater treatment infrastructure.

The company plans to deploy the fresh capital towards establishing a manufacturing facility, developing and validating its productised sewage treatment plant and completing its initial commercial deployments. It will also strengthen its process engineering and service capabilities as it prepares to scale its operations.

Neuromod Aqua’s approach comes amid India’s growing requirement for wastewater treatment infrastructure. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), India generates around 72,368 million litres of sewage per day, while installed treatment capacity stands at approximately 31,841 MLD. Actual sewage treatment is estimated at around 20,235 MLD, highlighting a significant gap between sewage generation and treatment capacity.

A 2025 analysis by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) estimates that India could require an additional 70,000 MLD of wastewater treatment capacity by 2047. The gap has created opportunities for decentralised and modular treatment solutions that can be deployed closer to the point of wastewater generation.

Over the next 12 months, Neuromod Aqua plans to complete its manufacturing facility and execute its initial deployments across Delhi NCR. The startup will also build a service and spare-parts network to support its installed systems and improve operational reliability.

Beyond sewage treatment, the company intends to expand its product portfolio into effluent treatment, zero liquid discharge (ZLD), water reuse, reverse osmosis and demineralisation applications. This expansion is expected to allow Neuromod Aqua to address wastewater treatment requirements across residential, commercial and industrial applications.

By pursuing a factory-manufactured and standardised approach, Neuromod Aqua is looking to move wastewater treatment away from highly customised, project-by-project execution towards a more scalable infrastructure model. Its initial focus on Delhi NCR will serve as an early market for validating the technology, manufacturing model and service network before wider expansion.

With its pre-seed backing and plans to establish manufacturing and initial commercial deployments, Neuromod Aqua is positioning itself in India’s expanding water infrastructure market, where the need for additional treatment capacity is expected to grow significantly over the coming decades.
