“No Pet Should Miss Good Care Just Because a Vet Isn’t Nearby”: Dr. Vikas Godara on Building Vetezy

For millions of Indian pet parents, accessing timely veterinary care remains a challenge especially outside metro cities, during emergencies, or for pets that struggle with travel. Dr. Vikas Godara, a veterinarian and entrepreneur, is addressing this gap through Vetezy, a platform that connects pet owners with registered veterinarians for online consultations. Trained in India and with experience working in emergency and critical care in the US, Dr. Godara combines clinical expertise with a clear vision: to make veterinary healthcare accessible, affordable, and trustworthy for every pet in India.

From emergency vet to startup founder

Vikas’s journey began in India, where he trained as a veterinarian before moving to the US to work in emergency and critical care, later serving as a Medical Director in California. He continues to provide online veterinary consultations for pet parents in the US, an experience that showed him how much a simple video call could help: a quick second opinion, a worried owner at midnight, or a monthly check-in for a pet with a chronic condition. Back in India, while running his own clinic, Pet Panacea in Hisar, he observed a recurring problem: many pets were missing out on care simply because reaching the right vet was difficult. “Vetezy brings that same kind of care to pet parents across India,” he says.

The problem Vetezy solves

Pet parents in India face multiple barriers when seeking veterinary care:

  • Vets are not always available, especially at night, on Sundays, or in smaller towns.
  • Few veterinarians are specifically trained in small-animal medicine.
  • For many pets, the clinic visit itself is stressful: cats get anxious, large or reactive dogs are hard to manage, and senior pets struggle with travel.
  • Pets with long-term illnesses suffer the most, as they require regular follow-ups.

Vetezy addresses these pain points by allowing pet parents to choose their vet, book a convenient time slot, see the price upfront, and receive a written treatment plan all from home. The same vet can follow the pet’s case over time, ensuring continuity of care.

The name: “Vet” + “Easy”

The name “Vetezy” is a straightforward combination of “vet” and “easy”. Dr. Godara wanted a name that instantly communicated veterinary care and easy access in one word. “It’s also a promise: reaching a qualified vet should be as simple as booking a cab,” he explains. This philosophy guides the platform’s design. If any part of the user experience feels complicated, the team works to simplify it.

Building a platform that balances convenience and quality

Vetezy was designed with first-time users in mind—many of whom are booking an online vet consultation for the first time. The platform is simple and mobile-friendly, with a dedicated app coming soon. To ensure quality:

  • Every vet on Vetezy is verified and registered with the Veterinary Council of India (VCI).
  • Pet parents can view each vet’s qualifications before booking.
  • Vets are trained to be transparent: if a pet needs a physical examination, they clearly recommend an in-person visit.

Dr. Godara emphasises that online care must meet the same standard as a clinic visit. He holds weekly meetings with the vet network to reinforce this principle.

Differentiating Vetezy in a crowded market

While other online veterinary platforms exist in India, Dr. Godara believes Vetezy stands out in several ways:

  • Choice and control: On most platforms, the company assigns a vet and a time slot. On Vetezy, pet parents choose their vet and their preferred time.
  • Transparent pricing: Prices are clear, with no hidden charges.
  • Better video experience: The platform includes camera zoom so vets can examine wounds, skin issues, or eyes up close, along with a built-in chat for sharing details.
  • Written treatment plans: Every pet parent receives a detailed, written treatment plan within 24 hours of the consultation.

These features are designed to make online consultations feel as thorough and reliable as an in-clinic visit.

Early challenges: Trust, not vet supply

Interestingly, building the veterinary network was the easiest part. As a vet himself, Dr. Godara already knew many qualified professionals. The real challenge was reaching pet parents and convincing them that a video call could genuinely help. “Online vet care is still new in India, and many people aren’t sure a video call can help,” he admits. To build trust, Vetezy focuses on:

  • Showcasing real vets with verifiable credentials.
  • Sharing practical, vet-reviewed pet care advice on social media.
  • Encouraging happy pet parents to share their experiences.

The team also answers pet parents’ questions even when they are not part of a paid consultation, believing that being helpful in small moments builds trust for bigger ones.

Bootstrapped, disciplined, and open to the right partners

Vetezy is currently bootstrapped. Dr. Godara says this has kept the team disciplined: every rupee has to deliver real value to pet parents. “In healthcare, trust grows slowly, so it’s better to grow at a pace where quality never drops,” he notes. While the company is open to external funding, it is looking for partners who understand healthcare and are aligned with its long-term vision.

Clinical responsibility in an online world

One of the most critical aspects of tele-veterinary care is knowing when not to treat online. Vikas, with his background in emergency care, takes this very seriously. Vetezy’s vets are trained to identify emergency signs such as:

  • Breathing difficulties
  • Suspected poisoning
  • Blocked cats (a life-threatening urinary condition)
  • Severe trauma or bleeding

In such cases, pets are directed to a clinic immediately. For everyday issues like skin problems, diet concerns, mild vomiting, or post-surgery follow-ups, online consultations provide fast and reliable support.

The long-term vision: A one-stop pet health platform

Vikas’s ambition for Vetezy extends beyond consultations. He wants the platform to become a one-stop solution for pet health in India. Next on the roadmap:

  • Prescription medicines delivered to pet parents
  • A curated selection of trusted pet products
  • At-home diagnostics, including sample collection and vaccinations
“Our goal is simple: no pet in India should miss good care just because a vet isn’t nearby,” he says.

Building a brand pet parents trust

Vetezy’s growth strategy is rooted in education and relationship-building. The company shares practical, vet-reviewed pet health tips on social media so that people know the brand before they need it. After every consultation, pet parents receive a detailed plan, and the team follows up to check on the pet’s progress. This focus on continuity, transparency, and genuine helpfulness is central to Vetezy’s identity not just as a platform, but as a trusted partner in pet parenting.
