DSP Finance Acquires Salter Technologies, Parent of Volt Money, to Expand Digital Lending

DSP Finance, the NBFC arm of DSP Group, has acquired Salter Technologies, the company operating the digital lending platform Volt Money, in a move that will strengthen its presence in secured lending against financial assets.

Volt Money enables customers to borrow against financial assets, including mutual fund investments through Loans Against Mutual Funds (LAMF).

The acquisition brings together DSP Finance’s balance sheet, risk management capabilities and institutional infrastructure with Volt Money’s digital lending technology and distribution network.

DSP Finance to Expand Lending Against Financial Assets

Volt Money allows customers to access loans against their mutual fund holdings, with funds disbursed within five minutes, subject to applicable processes and approvals.

Through the acquisition, DSP Finance plans to expand its digital lending offerings against financial assets and reach customers across the mutual fund and wealth management ecosystem.

DSP Finance has been building its presence in digital lending since receiving its NBFC registration in July 2024. The company has since onboarded more than 1.8 lakh retail customers and built a loan book of around Rs 4,000 crore.

The integration of Volt Money’s digital platform with DSP Finance’s financial and institutional capabilities is expected to support the company’s expansion in secured credit.

How Loans Against Mutual Funds Work

Loans Against Mutual Funds allow investors to raise liquidity against their mutual fund holdings without having to redeem their investments.

This gives investors access to funds for short-term requirements while allowing them to remain invested in their long-term assets, subject to the terms and conditions of the loan.

With mutual funds and other financial assets accounting for an increasing share of Indian household wealth, lending against these assets is emerging as an alternative way for consumers to access credit.

Volt Money’s Digital Lending Platform

Founded in 2022 by Ankit Agarwal, Bharat Lamba and Lalit Bihani, Volt Money focuses on providing digital access to credit against financial assets.

The platform’s lending proposition is centred on enabling customers to borrow against their mutual fund investments through a digital process.

For DSP Finance, the acquisition adds a technology-led distribution platform as it looks to deepen its presence in the secured lending segment.

The transaction also brings together two complementary capabilities: DSP Finance’s institutional infrastructure and lending capabilities, and Volt Money’s digital technology and customer distribution network.
