Bioscan Research Raises $1 Million Seed Funding Led by Unicorn India Ventures to Advance AI-Powered Brain Injury Detection

Mumbai-based medtech startup to expand globally, strengthen regulatory approvals, and enhance its AI-driven diagnostic platform

Mumbai-based medtech startup Bioscan Research has raised $1 million in a seed funding round led by Unicorn India Ventures. The fresh investment will help the company accelerate the development and commercialization of its non-invasive brain injury detection technology while expanding into new domestic and international markets.

The startup plans to utilize the capital to strengthen its product portfolio, secure additional regulatory approvals, create new intellectual property, and scale its market presence.

 

Funding to Support Product Innovation and Global Expansion

According to the company, the newly raised funds will be deployed toward expanding its commercial footprint, upgrading its medical devices, obtaining further regulatory clearances, and investing in research and intellectual property development.

The funding comes as Bioscan Research looks to increase adoption of its technology across healthcare institutions while exploring opportunities in overseas markets.

 

Developing AI-Powered Solutions for Early Brain Injury Detection

Founded in 2017 by Anupam Lavania and Shilpa Malik, Bioscan Research develops non-invasive medical devices designed to enable the early detection of brain injuries.

Its flagship product, CEREBO, combines Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) with machine learning to detect intracranial injuries without invasive procedures.

The technology is designed to identify traumatic brain injuries during the critical treatment window, allowing healthcare professionals to diagnose patients even before visible symptoms become apparent.

By enabling faster and more accurate diagnosis, the company aims to improve clinical decision-making and patient outcomes in emergency and trauma care settings.

 

Addressing a Critical Need in Emergency Healthcare

Traumatic brain injuries remain one of the leading causes of death and long-term disability worldwide, where timely diagnosis can significantly influence treatment outcomes.

Traditional diagnostic methods often rely on imaging technologies that may not always be immediately accessible, particularly in emergency situations or resource-constrained healthcare environments.

Bioscan Research’s non-invasive approach seeks to bridge this gap by providing healthcare providers with rapid screening capabilities that support early intervention.

The company believes its AI-powered platform can play an important role in improving accessibility to advanced neurological diagnostics across hospitals and emergency care facilities.

According to Bioscan Research, the company has recorded 5X growth over the past 12 months, reflecting increasing adoption of its technology.

Building on this momentum, the startup aims to achieve threefold growth over the next year by expanding its footprint across India while entering additional international markets.

 

Backed by a Deeptech-Focused Investor

The funding round was led by Unicorn India Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm established in 2016 that focuses on investing in deeptech startups across sectors including semiconductors, spacetech, AI infrastructure, and medical diagnostics.

The investment highlights growing investor interest in AI-enabled healthcare technologies that address critical diagnostic challenges while improving clinical efficiency and patient care.

With fresh capital in place, Bioscan Research is now focused on advancing its non-invasive brain injury detection platform, strengthening its technology portfolio, and expanding access to early neurological diagnostics across healthcare systems in India and beyond.
