Moj, the homegrown short-video platform owned by Mohalla Tech, has crossed 500 million downloads on the Google Play Store. The platform ranks fourth in India’s Social Media category, records more than 1 billion daily video plays and has reported 100% year-on-year revenue growth over the past 12 months.
Bengaluru, October 13, 2026: Moj, India’s homegrown short-video platform operated by Mohalla Tech Pvt Ltd, has crossed 500 million downloads on the Google Play Store, marking a major milestone in its growth since its launch in 2020.
The platform’s growing reach reflects the continued popularity of short-form videos and episodic micro dramas among Indian audiences. Moj currently ranks fourth in the Social Media category on the Google Play Store in India, making it the only Indian app in the top four, according to the company.
With a focus on regional content, local trends and culturally relevant storytelling, Moj has built a community of more than 3 million creators. The platform allows users to discover and share content in multiple Indian languages, catering to audiences across different regions and communities.
Moj Records Nearly 50 Minutes of Daily User Engagement
Moj’s growth has also been supported by increasing user engagement. The platform records more than 1 billion video plays daily, with users spending nearly 300 minutes per month, or close to 50 minutes per day, on the app.
According to the company, daily time spent per user has more than doubled since it introduced advertising-supported micro dramas on the platform last year.
Moj now records higher monthly time spent per user than most mainstream over-the-top (OTT) platforms in India, highlighting the growing role of short-form entertainment and episodic storytelling in users’ viewing habits.
The platform’s creator ecosystem also continues to generate income. Creators on Moj collectively earn close to ₹100 crore annually, according to the company.
Micro Dramas Drive Advertising and Revenue Growth
Alongside user engagement, micro dramas have become an important part of Moj’s content and monetisation strategy. The platform has attracted interest from advertisers looking to connect with audiences through storytelling-led formats.
Its advertising offerings include commerce integrations and branded micro drama launches, giving brands opportunities to integrate their products and messaging into entertainment content.
Moj reported 100% year-on-year revenue growth over the last 12 months, which the company attributes to growing advertiser interest and its expanding content ecosystem.
The development highlights how short-video platforms are exploring new ways to generate revenue beyond conventional advertising, including branded entertainment and commerce-led integrations.
Ankush Sachdeva Highlights User and Creator Community
Commenting on the milestone, Ankush Sachdeva, CEO and Co-Founder of Mohalla Tech Pvt Ltd, said crossing 500 million downloads reflects the trust and engagement of users across India.
Sachdeva said Moj’s focus has been on building a platform that connects people with stories, creators and trends that reflect their languages and cultural backgrounds.
He added that the company intends to strengthen the platform’s ecosystem and create more opportunities for users and creators to connect through content. He also highlighted the role of its user community in opening up new ways for brands to reach audiences through immersive storytelling.
As Moj expands its presence, the company plans to continue making content discovery and creation more accessible and relevant to audiences across the country.
