AI software platform Emergent is set to launch its flagship hackathon, VibeCon India, in Bengaluru on April 16–17. In a high-stakes move for the local startup ecosystem, the winning team will bypass standard application hurdles to receive a direct interview with a Y Combinator partner for an upcoming batch.

The event is strategically timed to precede Y Combinator’s first in-person Startup School India on April 18, effectively turning the week into a concentrated sprint for the country’s top engineering and entrepreneurial talent.

A Focus on Elite Builders

Unlike traditional open-participation hackathons, VibeCon operates on a “high-signal” model. The selection process was exceptionally competitive, drawing more than 20,000 applicants from India and overseas. Only a small, vetted cohort of engineers, founders, and operators was chosen to participate, emphasizing technical execution over conceptual pitches.

“VibeCon is designed to identify builders capable of rapidly turning ideas into working products,” the organizers stated, noting the rigorous selection process ensures a high density of talent.

Ecosystem Support and Prizes

The initiative has drawn significant backing from global and domestic tech leaders. Partner organizations include:

• VCs: Lightspeed Venture Partners, Together Fund.

• AI & Infrastructure: OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS, MongoDB.

• Fintech & Operations: Stripe, Razorpay, Temporal Technologies.

Beyond the Y Combinator interview, winning teams will receive cash prizes and substantial cloud and developer credits to sustain their product development post-event.
