HORIBA Expands Global R&D Footprint with 100% Acquisition of India’s Pristine Deeptech

HORIBA India Private Limited, a subsidiary of the Japanese precision instruments giant HORIBA Group, has announced the full acquisition of Pristine Deeptech Private Limited. The deal marks a strategic entry into the specialized field of Lab-Grown Diamond (LGD) applications for the semiconductor and quantum research sectors.

With this acquisition, Pristine Deeptech becomes a wholly-owned subsidiary of HORIBA, serving as the cornerstone for a new advanced R&D hub in India.

Diamonds: The Future of Quantum and Semiconductors

Pristine Deeptech has emerged as a leader in researching the utilization of Lab-Grown Diamonds as a high-performance material. Beyond their use in jewelry, “Deeptech Diamonds” are becoming critical in:

  • Semiconductors: Acting as a superior thermal conductor to prevent overheating in next-gen chips.

  • Quantum Research: Serving as a stable substrate for quantum sensing and computing.

  • High-Power Electronics: Enabling faster, more efficient power conversion for EVs and renewable energy grids.

Strengthening the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” Vision

The acquisition aligns with India’s “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives, shifting the focus from simple manufacturing to high-value Intellectual Property (IP) creation.

“Aligned with India’s vision, our partnership with Pristine Deeptech is a strategic step to strengthen HORIBA’s R&D capabilities focused on analytical and measurement solutions for advanced materials for the region and beyond. We are reaffirming our commitment to innovation, localization, and talent development,” said Dr. Rajeev Gautam, President of HORIBA India.

A Big Step for India’s Deeptech Ecosystem

For HORIBA, a global leader in Raman spectroscopy and analytical systems, this move allows for a vertical integration of diamond material science with their measurement expertise.

Mr. Hideyuki Koishi, Chairman of HORIBA India, emphasized that this partnership is a “big step” toward strengthening global capabilities in advanced materials. By establishing an R&D facility in Ahmedabad, HORIBA plans to tap into India’s growing pool of deeptech engineers and materials scientists to shape future markets worldwide.
