In a move that underscores Meta’s evolving strategy for one of its most important markets, Arun Srinivas has been appointed as the new Managing Director and Head of Meta India, effective July 1, 2025.
This appointment marks a significant step up for Srinivas, who has served as Director and Head of Ads Business for Meta India since 2022. During this time, he played a pivotal role in driving business strategy and revenue across Meta’s ecosystem—including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp—while sharpening the company’s focus on AI, Reels, and Messaging.
Arun’s elevation comes at a time of internal transformation at Meta, with Sandhya Devanathan, Meta’s India VP, now also spearheading the company’s operations in Southeast Asia. Srinivas will continue to report to her as he takes on broader responsibilities in a rapidly shifting tech and regulatory environment.
A seasoned executive, Arun brings with him a diverse background that straddles consumer, mobility, and capital markets. From leading consumer growth at Unilever, to a stint at WestBridge Capital, and then heading operations and marketing at Ola, Arun’s career has been a masterclass in cross-industry leadership. At Meta, that breadth is expected to shape how the tech giant navigates India’s vast and varied digital landscape.
His appointment comes against the backdrop of ongoing tensions between Meta and Indian regulators. Late last year, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) imposed a penalty on Meta for alleged anti-competitive behavior, particularly concerning WhatsApp’s data-sharing practices. The five-year restriction on cross-platform data use highlights the increasing scrutiny global tech firms are facing in India.
For Meta, India remains a crucial battleground—not just for scale, but for setting precedents in responsible digital growth. As Arun steps into his new role, all eyes will be on how he balances platform innovation with public accountability.
