Sisir Radar Secures $1.5M to Advance India’s First L-Band SAR Satellite

Spacetech startup Sisir Radar has raised $1.5 million in a seed round led by Shastra VC, with participation from Riverwalk Holdings and INVSTT. The funding will help the company strengthen its R&D and manufacturingcapabilities as it works toward launching India’s highest-resolution L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite by 2026.

Pioneering India’s SAR Capabilities

Founded by Dr. Tapan Misra, Sisir Radar is the first Indian company to build SAR imaging payloads across multiple frequency bands, including L, P, and X bands. SAR technology enables 24/7 real-time Earth monitoring, penetrating through darkness, clouds, and dense vegetation, making it a game-changer for applications in defence, intelligence, agriculture, disaster response, mining, maritime surveillance, and infrastructure monitoring.

Strategic Defence Partnerships & IDEX Wins

Sisir Radar is already a technology partner to major Indian defence companies, helping develop advanced radar solutions. The startup has also won two IDEX (Innovations for Defence Excellence) challenges, securing projects to develop submetric L-band and high-resolution P-band SAR satellites for the Indian Air Force.

With this latest funding, Sisir Radar is set to elevate India’s space-based surveillance and imaging capabilities, further solidifying the country’s strategic autonomy in SAR technology.
