Bengaluru-based chemical process innovation startup NuSynth Technologies has raised Rs 36.5 crore (around $4 million) in a seed funding round co-led by Avaana Capital and Shastra VC. The startup is developing technology to make chemical manufacturing more efficient by identifying alternative ways to produce chemicals.
NuSynth is building a platform that evaluates raw materials, chemical reactions and process economics to identify synthesis routes that can improve cost, yield, safety, sustainability and scalability.
The fresh capital will be used to strengthen the company’s research and development (R&D) and technology capabilities, build an initial portfolio of proprietary chemical processes, improve its scale-up capabilities and expand the team.
Using AI to Improve Chemical Research
NuSynth uses predictive synthesis models and an AI engine that processes experimental data to guide future research. By using insights from previous experiments, the platform aims to help researchers make better decisions in subsequent research cycles and reduce the time required for chemical R&D.
The company is working to develop alternative synthesis routes that can make chemical production more cost-effective and sustainable. Its platform is designed to assess different process options and identify improvements in areas such as production yield, safety and scalability.
Initial Focus on Pharmaceuticals and Electronics Chemicals
NuSynth is initially targeting the pharmaceuticals and electronics chemicals sectors. It plans to develop proprietary chemical processes that can be used commercially across multiple chemistry-led industries.
The startup aims to build its own portfolio of process technologies rather than focus only on identifying improvements to existing chemical production methods. Its approach combines chemical research, experimental data and AI-based analysis to develop processes suited to commercial applications.
Founding Team Brings Industry and Research Experience
NuSynth was founded by Poorvank Purohit, former Managing Director and CEO of Solara Active Pharma Sciences, and Dr Ramesha A R, a postdoctoral researcher at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Washington.
The founding team also includes Abhishek Deo and Dipak Bajaj, who have experience working with companies such as Zetwerk, Mstack, Ola, JPMorgan, BlackBuck and SUN Mobility.
With the latest funding, NuSynth plans to strengthen its R&D infrastructure, build its first set of proprietary processes and improve its ability to take chemical innovations from research to commercial-scale production.
The company’s broader goal is to use data-driven research and AI to shorten chemical development cycles and identify more efficient ways to manufacture chemicals for a range of industries.
