Bengaluru-based deep-tech startup Hycosys has raised more than $1 million (around ₹9 crore) in a seed funding round led by MountTech Growth Fund – Kavachh. The investment follows an earlier $88.4K pre-seed round from PointOne Capital in December 2024, reflecting continued investor backing for the company’s clean energy ambitions.
The newly infused capital will help Hycosys expand its core engineering team, access high-end testing infrastructure, fast-track the development of its micro gas turbine (MGT) platform, and showcase a viable clean alternative to diesel generators by mid-2027.
Founded in 2024 by Tapish Agarwal and Ugandhar Reddy, Hycosys is developing fuel-flexible, low-emission micro gas turbines designed from first principles. The company is working on hydrogen-ready systems tailored for distributed clean power, mobility applications, and aerospace use cases. It is also supported by multiple government initiatives, venture capital programmes, and CSR-backed platforms.
India’s dependence on diesel-based backup power remains substantial, with industry reports estimating over 227 GW of installed diesel generator capacity nationwide. Hycosys aims to tap into this opportunity by delivering cleaner, more efficient turbine solutions.
Beyond stationary power, the startup is exploring integration of its MGT systems into microgrids, heavy commercial vehicle range extenders, and advanced propulsion units for large fixed-wing drones and aircraft.
Its technology stack features a hydrogen-optimised combustor, a 3D-printed heat recovery system, and a next-generation turbine design, currently being tested at IIT-BHU. According to the company, these advancements improve overall efficiency while making the system up to 30% lighter than conventional alternatives.
With India targeting 50% of its total energy requirements from non-fossil sources by 2030, Hycosys is positioning its indigenous turbine platform as a strategic solution in the country’s long-term decarbonisation efforts.
