Chennai-based airport technology startup Blunav has raised $1 million in a seed funding round led by Piper Serica, as the company looks to strengthen its airport operations platform and expand deployments across India and global markets.
The fresh capital will be used to grow the team, continue product development, and scale deployments internationally, the company said in a press release.
Founded by Suseendar Marimuthu and Cherukuru Sridharan, Blunav is building a cloud-based Airport Operating System designed to bring together operational, passenger, and enterprise systems into one connected platform. The startup aims to help airports improve efficiency, streamline operations, and deliver a better passenger experience.
Blunav is focused particularly on solving operational challenges faced by small and mid-sized airports. Many regional airports still rely heavily on manual systems, while several mid-sized airports operate with disconnected vendor platforms that create inefficiencies. Larger airports, on the other hand, often deal with fragmented operational data spread across multiple terminals and systems.
The company’s platform is designed to address these gaps by creating a unified operational ecosystem with real-time access to airport data across teams and departments.
Blunav’s first deployment is currently operational at Chennai International Airport under the Airports Authority of India’s Startup India initiative. According to the company, its Airside Management software helped the airport reduce runway occupancy time by 22% during a 20-day study that tracked over 3,500 flights.
The startup believes that connected airport infrastructure and real-time operational visibility will play a key role in improving airport efficiency as air traffic continues to grow globally.
Blunav competes with international airport technology companies such as SITA and Amadeus, which also provide digital aviation and airport management solutions.
As airports increasingly adopt automation and integrated systems, startups like Blunav are positioning themselves to support the next phase of aviation infrastructure modernisation, especially in emerging markets where digital transformation is still evolving.
