Banaraswala Raises $2 Million in Seed Funding from Prax Impex to Expand Across India

Banarasi food brand Banaraswala has raised $2 million in a seed funding round from Prax Impex Private Limited to expand its outlet network, introduce new menu offerings and strengthen its franchise operations across India.

Banaraswala, a food brand specialising in traditional Banarasi cuisine, has secured $2 million in seed funding from Prax Impex Private Limited as it looks to accelerate its expansion across domestic markets. The company plans to use the capital to establish new outlets, develop its menu and scale its franchise network.

Founded by Vibhanshu Mishra, Banaraswala operates under the tagline “Ghat Se Ghar Tak” and focuses on bringing the culinary traditions of Varanasi to consumers across India. Its offerings include traditional sweets, chaats and meals, with the brand incorporating elements such as kulhads, pattal and clay into its dining experience to reflect Banarasi food culture.

Banaraswala Plans Expansion to 50 Outlets by March 2027

The company currently operates three outlets across Delhi and is preparing to expand into additional markets, including Banswara in Rajasthan, Sarangpur in Gujarat, and Farrukhabad and Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh.

Banaraswala aims to scale its presence to 50 outlets across Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi NCR and other Tier 2 markets by March 2027. The expansion strategy will include a combination of company-owned locations and franchise-operated outlets.

The planned growth reflects the company’s focus on taking regional Indian cuisine to a wider consumer base through a scalable food-service model. By expanding into emerging urban markets alongside established metropolitan areas, Banaraswala aims to increase its geographical reach and build a broader presence in India’s organised food and restaurant segment.

Focus on Traditional Cuisine and Franchise Growth

Banaraswala’s business model centres on traditional Banarasi food and a dining experience inspired by the cultural identity of Varanasi. Its menu spans sweets, chaats and meals, while its use of traditional serving materials and earthenware aims to create a distinctive regional experience for customers.

Alongside its physical outlets, the brand sells through major food delivery platforms, enabling it to reach customers beyond its dine-in locations.

The company also plans to strengthen its internal operations, team and processes as it enters new markets. Building these capabilities will be important as it expands through both company-owned outlets and franchise partnerships.

Funding to Support the Next Phase of Growth

The $2 million seed investment from Prax Impex Private Limited will support Banaraswala’s plans to expand its retail footprint, broaden its menu and establish a larger franchise network.

The company’s target of 50 outlets by March 2027 sets an ambitious expansion timeline, with execution likely to depend on franchise development, operational consistency and the ability to maintain its regional food identity across different markets.

With the latest funding, Banaraswala is positioning itself to take traditional Banarasi cuisine to more consumers while building a wider presence across North India and selected Tier 2 markets.
