“Credibility Is Built One Parent at a Time”: Vrushali Gourkhede on Building Yuvrus Botanicals, a Science-Backed Child Nutrition Brand

For Vrushali Govindrao Gourkhede, entrepreneurship was never about starting a company for its own sake. It was about seeing a problem and having the courage to say, “Maybe I can solve this differently.” With over 15 years of experience across healthcare, automotive, technology, operations and consumer businesses, Vrushali has spent her career building systems, leading teams and creating impact. But it was becoming a mother that reshaped her priorities and led her to found Yuvrus Botanicals, a clean-label, science-backed children’s nutrition and wellness brand.

Motherhood as the catalyst: Yuvaan and the birth of Yuvrus

Yuvrus Botanicals came from a deeply personal place. For Vrushali, becoming a mother changed the way she looked at health, nutrition and wellness. “Yuvaan, my son, is the inspiration and joy behind building Yuvrus Botanicals,” she says. “My journey as a mother motivated me to explore better nutritional options for children.” She began questioning what families were giving their children, what was actually inside everyday products, and whether parents had enough trustworthy choices. That curiosity evolved into a conviction: to build a brand that brings together science, nature, quality and trust.

The gap: Not products, but trust and transparency

In the baby and child nutrition market, Vrushali noticed that the problem was not a lack of products. There were plenty of options on shelves and online. The real gap was trust and transparency. “As a mother, I found myself reading labels, questioning ingredients and trying to understand whether a product was genuinely adding nutritional value or simply making a good marketing claim,” she explains. She realised she was not alone. Many parents today are more conscious about what their children consume, but they don’t always have the time, knowledge or information to evaluate every ingredient and every claim. That led to a simple but powerful question: why can’t parents have a children’s nutrition brand where they don’t have to choose between convenience and confidence?

That became one of the fundamental reasons behind Yuvrus Botanicals.

The name: Inspired by Yuvaan, built for a generation

The name “Yuvrus” is deeply personal. It is inspired by Vrushali’s son, Yuvaan. When the founders were thinking about the brand, they wanted the name to represent the generation they were building for children, their growth and their future. “Botanicals” reflect their belief in the power of nature, with an important qualification: nature and science should work together. “For me, Yuvrus Botanicals represents that intersection the goodness of nature, the discipline of science and the emotion of nurturing a child,” Vrushali says. Because the brand is inspired by their own child, there is an emotional responsibility attached to every product they develop.

Four founding principles: Transparency, science, quality, trust

From day one, Yuvrus Botanicals was built on four non-negotiable principles:

  • Transparency: Parents should understand what they are giving their children.
  • Science: Natural does not automatically mean better. Formulations must have a rational nutritional basis.
  • Quality: For children’s products, there can be no compromise on sourcing, testing or manufacturing standards.
  • Trust: The most valuable asset a children’s brand can build.
“You can spend millions on marketing, but if parents don’t trust you, you don’t have a brand,” Vrushali notes.

The objective was never to create a product that simply looks good on a shelf. The goal was to create something that, when a parent picks it up, they feel comfortable saying, “I understand what this is, and I trust the people behind it.”

Choco Genius and the focus on early childhood nutrition

Yuvrus is beginning its journey with a clear focus on stage-based nutrition aligned with children’s evolving needs. The brand’s first product, Choco Genius, is designed for children aged 2–7 years, a critical window for growth and cognitive development. “Nutrition during the early years is especially important because it supports cognitive development, learning capacity and overall growth,” Vrushali explains. “That was an important motivation behind creating Choco Genius.” The broader vision is to develop a portfolio of stage-based food blends that address specific nutritional requirements at different ages, starting with the 2–7 years segment and expanding from there.

Challenges: Formulation, taste, and earning trust

Building anything for children comes with a different level of responsibility. One of the biggest challenges was getting the right balance between nutrition, formulation, taste, safety, quality, scalability and affordability. “Ultimately, the consumer is a child. You can develop a scientifically well-designed product, but if the child doesn’t like the taste, the product doesn’t work,” Vrushali says. The second major challenge was building trust. In the children’s nutrition category, parents are understandably cautious. A good-looking package or a strong marketing campaign is not enough. So Yuvrus decided to build from the fundamentals formulation, ingredients, quality, manufacturing and transparency and let the brand grow from there. “In a children’s brand, credibility is built one parent at a time,” she adds.

Capital allocation: Product first, marketing later

As founders, Vrushali and her team were very conscious about how they deployed their initial capital. Their priority was not to spend heavily on advertising from day one. Instead, they invested in the foundation of the business:

  • Product development and formulation
  • Ingredients, quality and testing
  • Manufacturing and regulatory requirements
  • Packaging and brand development
“We wanted to get the product right before we tried to scale the story around it,” Vrushali explains.

She believes early-stage founders should be careful about the difference between spending money and creating value. For Yuvrus, the initial investment was about building an asset a product and a brand that could eventually scale rather than simply buying short-term visibility.

Bringing healthcare, technology and partnerships together

Vrushali’s background in healthcare leadership, product innovation, partnerships and consumer wellness plays a direct role in how Yuvrus is being built. She doesn’t see Yuvrus only as an FMCG or baby-food business. She sees it as part of a larger child health and wellness ecosystem.

  • Healthcare has taught her that prevention and early intervention matter enormously.
  • Technology has shown her how to make solutions more accessible.
  • Entrepreneurship has taught her how to build systems that can scale.
  • Partnerships have reinforced that you don’t build a large company alone.

All of these experiences are being brought into Yuvrus combining consumer understanding with healthcare knowledge, product innovation, technology, partnerships and strong execution. “Ultimately, I want Yuvrus to become more than a product brand. I want it to become a trusted companion for parents as their children grow,” she says.

Balancing a mother’s instinct with scientific rigour

As both a founder and a mother, Vrushali sees her role as bringing two perspectives together. “Motherhood gives you the instinct to ask the right questions, but science has to help you find the right answers,” she explains. Her first question is always, “Would I be comfortable giving this to my own child?” But she doesn’t believe personal instinct alone is enough to develop children’s nutrition products. That is where science, formulation expertise, quality processes, testing and regulatory standards come in. “The mother in me asks the difficult questions. The entrepreneur in me asks whether we can solve the problem at scale. And the healthcare perspective asks whether we are doing it responsibly,” she says. That combination sits at the heart of how Yuvrus approaches product development.

Long-term vision: A trusted Indian child wellness brand with global reach

Vrushali’s ambition for Yuvrus Botanicals is much bigger than building one successful nutrition product. “I want Yuvrus Botanicals to become a trusted Indian child nutrition and wellness brand with a global footprint,” she says. The company is starting with nutrition, but the larger vision is to build an ecosystem around childhood wellness — covering nutrition, healthy development, education and better choices for parents. She sees a significant opportunity in India, with its huge young population, growing awareness of preventive health and increasingly informed parents. “I believe we can build products in India that meet global expectations and eventually serve families around the world,” Vrushali adds. But for her, success will not be measured only by revenue or the number of products sold. “If, five or ten years from now, a parent sees Yuvrus and thinks, ‘I trust this brand for my child,’ then I will feel that we have built something meaningful.”

For Vrushali, Yuvrus Botanicals is not just a company. It is an attempt to create a legacy of trust around children’s nutrition and wellness one parent, and one child, at a time.
