New Delhi: In a significant step towards unlocking entrepreneurship beyond India’s urban centres, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) have launched Gramodyam, a digital-first entrepreneurship development programme aimed at nurturing rural business owners and strengthening the country’s grassroots enterprise ecosystem.
Announced on the occasion of NABARD’s 45th Foundation Day, the initiative seeks to identify aspiring entrepreneurs from rural India and equip them with the skills, mentorship, financial access, and market connections needed to build sustainable businesses. During its pilot phase, Gramodyam aims to support the creation of nearly 4,000 rural entrepreneurs over the next three years, offering an end-to-end support system that extends well beyond conventional skill training.
Unlike traditional entrepreneurship programmes that often conclude with classroom learning, Gramodyam has been designed as a holistic journey. Participants will undergo psychometric assessments, entrepreneurship training, industry-specific skill development, business mentoring, credit facilitation, and post-establishment handholding, ensuring they receive support from idea validation to enterprise creation.
The programme follows a digital-first hybrid model, enabling aspiring entrepreneurs from villages across India to participate through online platforms while also benefiting from on-ground community outreach. To ensure transparency, every participant will complete an e-KYC verification through NSDC before joining the programme.
As India’s startup ecosystem continues to mature, initiatives such as Gramodyam highlight the growing focus on nurturing entrepreneurial talent outside metropolitan cities. By combining entrepreneurship education with access to finance, mentorship, and market linkages, the programme aims to create not only self-employment opportunities but also local jobs that can strengthen rural economies.
The initiative aligns with the broader vision of building an inclusive and self-reliant rural economy, where entrepreneurship becomes a catalyst for sustainable livelihoods and community development. By bringing together NABARD’s expertise in rural development and NSDC’s skilling ecosystem, Gramodyam seeks to create a stronger foundation for the next generation of rural entrepreneurs.
