AI safety and research company Anthropic has appointed Sangeeta Bavi as Head of Digital Natives, Startups and Growth for India as the company continues to strengthen its presence in the country.
In her new role, Bavi will lead Anthropic’s efforts to drive the adoption of Claude among Indian startups and mid-market businesses. The appointment comes at a time when Anthropic is actively expanding its India operations and increasing its focus on the country’s growing AI ecosystem.
Sharing the update through a LinkedIn post, Sangeeta Bavi spoke about her long-standing connection with India’s startup ecosystem and founders.
“Founders have always held a special place in my heart. Their ambition, resilience, and belief that they can change the world have taught me more than any other form of learning. That’s why joining Anthropic as Head of Digital Natives, Startups & Growth, India feels deeply meaningful,” she wrote.
Before joining Anthropic, Bavi served as Chief Operating Officer at YourStory Media, where she worked on operational transformation and revenue diversification initiatives. Prior to that, she was Director of Startup Business at Microsoft, where she played a key role in building Microsoft’s startup business in India from the ground up.
Anthropic has been steadily increasing its focus on the Indian market over the past few months. India is already the second-largest market globally for Claude, contributing nearly 7.2% of the company’s global usage.
The company is also preparing to launch its first office in Bengaluru, which will act as its primary hub for building local teams and expanding enterprise adoption in India.
Earlier this year, Anthropic appointed Irina Ghose, former Managing Director of Microsoft India, to lead its India operations ahead of the Bengaluru office launch. In April, the company also brought in Amlan Mohanty, former Google policy lead, as Head of India Policy and External Affairs.
Founded by former OpenAI executives, Anthropic is known for building Claude, its AI assistant platform focused on safe and responsible artificial intelligence development. The company has been rapidly expanding its enterprise and developer ecosystem globally as demand for AI tools continues to rise.
