Ride-hailing giant Uber has announced a partnership with the Adani Group to establish its first data centre in India. The facility marks a significant expansion of Uber’s technological and infrastructure footprint in one of its most critical growth markets.
The announcement was made by Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi following a meeting with Gautam Adani in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
“India is fast emerging as a leading innovation hub for Uber,” Khosrowshahi stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter). He emphasized that the new data centre will enable the company to “test and deploy” large-scale technology from India to support its global operations.
The collaboration aligns with the Adani Group’s aggressive expansion into digital infrastructure through AdaniConneX, its data centre joint venture. AdaniConneX has been rapidly building out facilities across multiple Indian cities, including a massive data centre campus in Visakhapatnam.
Strategic Infrastructure Growth
The decision to localize data infrastructure comes during Khosrowshahi’s five-day official visit to India, where he is actively discussing the company’s long-term investment roadmap. As part of the itinerary, the Uber chief held high-level talks with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant.
By anchoring its data infrastructure within the country, Uber joins a growing list of global technology firms ramping up investments in India’s cloud and AI ecosystems. This shift is largely propelled by skyrocketing local demand for digital services and the Indian government’s stringent push for data localization and digital sovereignty.
The move is expected to enhance Uber’s operational efficiency and data processing speeds within the region while leveraging Adani’s expanding power and infrastructure capabilities.
