The Next Big Thing in Haircare are Shower Filters, not Serums

In the beauty and personal care industry, most people focus on what they apply to their hair and skin serums, shampoos, and creams. But what if the real issue begins much earlier?

Roshni Kar, Founder of Care Dale, recently spoke with Indian Startup Times about the journey behind building her company. She shared that it all started with a personal experience.

After graduating from IIT Kharagpur and moving to Bangalore for work, Roshni began experiencing severe hair fall. Initially, she assumed it was due to stress or unsuitable hair products. However, she soon discovered that the real culprit was hard water.

A doctor advised her to pay attention to the water she used to wash her hair. That moment sparked a realization many others were facing similar issues without recognizing the cause. It raised an important question: Why do people spend heavily on beauty products but ignore the quality of water they use every day?

This question laid the foundation for Care Dale.

Across many parts of India, groundwater is commonly used, and it often contains high levels of calcium and magnesium minerals that make water “hard” and potentially harmful to hair and skin. While countless people struggle with hair fall and skin concerns, the role of water quality is rarely discussed.

Most individuals blame their products or routines for these issues. Roshni wanted to address the root cause of the water itself.

One turning point came when a customer returned after five months of using Care Dale’s product and requested additional filters. She shared that her hair fall had significantly reduced. Similar feedback from other users strengthened the team’s belief that they were solving a meaningful problem.

Before developing their solution, Care Dale conducted extensive research, speaking with over 1,000 individuals who reported hair and skin issues linked to water quality. The team also consulted dermatologists to better understand the science behind the problem.

They spent 12 months developing their product, choosing not to rush the process and instead focusing on effectiveness. The outcome was a specialized shower filter designed to address hard water concerns, a relatively new concept in the Indian market.

Building trust was not easy. Many people were initially skeptical that a shower filter could help reduce hair fall. To overcome this, Care Dale conducted studies demonstrating that their filter could reduce hair fall by up to 78% within 30 days. They also focused on educating consumers about how water quality impacts personal care.

Through educational content and visual demonstrations of what their filters capture, the company successfully built awareness. This approach helped Care Dale generate over 50 million views across their content platforms and shift consumer thinking from treating symptoms to understanding underlying causes.

Roshni noted that changing consumer mindset has been one of the biggest challenges. People often turn to new products rather than evaluating environmental factors like water.

To address this, Care Dale refined its storytelling and messaging to emphasize that personal care begins with the water we use.

The company has raised over $163,000 in funding and plans to invest in product improvement and expanding its reach. As urbanization grows and water quality challenges increase, Roshni believes more people will seek solutions that address root causes rather than surface-level symptoms.

Care Dale’s long-term vision is to help people worldwide gain access to cleaner, safer water for daily personal care.

Roshni’s advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is simple: focus on validating your idea and measuring real outcomes, not just marketing.

Sometimes, the best solutions come not from adding something new but from fixing what was quietly affecting us all along.
