Sanlayan Technologies Invests in Versabyte Data Systems to Boost Indigenous Defence Electronics

Defence electronics company Sanlayan Technologies has announced a strategic investment in Versabyte Data Systems, a Hyderabad-based firm specializing in defence-grade power electronics. The move is part of Sanlayan’s broader strategy to strengthen its indigenous defence electronics capabilities and reduce import dependence in India’s critical defence sector.

Founded in 1987 by P.S. Reddy, Versabyte Data Systems designs and supplies power systems and converters to leading defence organizations such as Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), DRDO, and the Indian Armed Forces.

For FY25, the company reported a revenue of Rs 67 crore and profit of Rs 16.5 crore, along with an order book of Rs 210 crore and a pipeline exceeding Rs 200 crore.

Driving Collaboration and Indigenous Capability

Post-investment, Versabyte will continue to function as an independent unit under the Sanlayan Group, retaining its current leadership and engineering teams. The partnership aims to accelerate joint product development, market expansion, and participation in defence tenders.

Sanlayan Technologies previously acquired Dexcel Electronics, an embedded systems company, and has since built a 70-member R&D team dedicated to developing radar and electronic warfare (EW) systems. This acquisition marks another step toward offering end-to-end indigenous electronics solutions across the defence value chain.

The investment follows Sanlayan’s recent Series A funding round of Rs 186 crore, which the company said would be used to support strategic acquisitions, in-house research, and collaborations to advance India’s self-reliant defence ecosystem.

“With Versabyte’s proven capabilities in power electronics and Sanlayan’s focus on radar and EW systems, this partnership brings complementary strengths that will help India design, build, and sustain next-generation defence electronics domestically,” the company said in a statement.
