Fragaria Fruits Raises $2 Million to Redefine India’s Premium Fruit Market

Fragaria Fruits, a sustainable farming startup, has raised $2 million in a seed funding round led by WEH Ventures, with participation from Rainmatter, Spiral Ventures, and angel investor Sashi Kumar. This follows the company’s earlier ₹1.5 crore pre-seed round, marking another step forward in its mission to revolutionize India’s premium fruit ecosystem.

The newly secured funds will be used to expand Fragaria’s operations in Bengaluru, broaden its product portfolio to include blueberries and raspberries, and ensure a year-round supply of fresh, sustainable, high-quality fruits to Indian consumers.

Founded in 2024 by Harish Varadharajan, Timothy Chad Van Niekerk, and Damian López-Salazar, Fragaria Fruits aims to bridge a key gap in India’s fruit market — the lack of consistently premium, pesticide-free produce available throughout the year.

Changing the Way India Eats Fruit

Fragaria’s flagship brand, Oh! Fruits, offers European strawberries cultivated in Chennai using advanced vertical farming and Controlled Environmental Agriculture (CEA). These strawberries are known to be twice as sweet as conventional Indian varieties, completely pesticide-free, and have a shelf life three times longer than typical market produce.

With a strong emphasis on sustainability, Fragaria employs water recycling systems, solar energy, and environmentally conscious growing practices to minimize its carbon footprint while maintaining affordability for consumers.

Scaling Up Smart Farming

Currently producing 2–3 kg of strawberries daily, the company plans to scale its output to 120–150 kg per day by expanding production capacity in Bengaluru. The team’s vision is to introduce premium berries—blueberries and raspberries—to Indian consumers who increasingly seek quality, traceability, and freshness.

“Our goal is to make world-class fruit accessible to every Indian household,” said Harish Varadharajan, co-founder of Fragaria Fruits. “We’re not just building a brand — we’re building a future where fresh, sustainable, and delicious fruit is available all year long.”

Though Fragaria has few direct competitors in India’s local fruit segment, it operates in a niche space dominated by imported brands such as Driscoll’s (berries), Zespri (kiwi), and Rockit (apples). By offering a locally grown, sustainable alternative, Fragaria aims to reduce dependence on imports while setting new benchmarks in freshness and flavor.
