UK’s Graphcore to Pump $1.3 Billion into India’s AI Chip Ecosystem

Bengaluru, October 9, 2025 – UK-based AI chipmaker Graphcore, backed by SoftBank, has announced a £1 billion (approximately $1.3 billion) investment in India over the next ten years. The investment will focus on establishing Graphcore’s first AI Engineering Campus in Bengaluru, which is set to create 500 semiconductor engineering jobs.

In the initial phase, Graphcore plans to hire 100 engineers specializing in silicon logical design, physical design, verification, characterization, and bring-up. These engineers will develop semiconductor products to support AI applications across sectors such as drug discovery, public health, environmental monitoring, and business operations.

The Bengaluru campus will serve as a central hub for Graphcore’s AI computing operations, coordinating with SoftBank’s global AI initiatives while managing product design and manufacturing workflows locally. The company aims to leverage India’s engineering talent to drive research, product development, and testing of AI semiconductor solutions.

This move comes as India emerges as a growing hub for AI semiconductor development, and Graphcore’s investment is expected to create significant employment opportunities while fostering talent development in the country’s semiconductor sector.

Graphcore’s decade-long plan underscores its strategy to expand AI chip production and strengthen India’s position in the global AI technology landscape.
