At a time when India’s AI landscape is evolving at breakneck speed, Bhavish Aggarwal’s Krutrim has taken another decisive step toward its vision of building AI deeply embedded in India’s public infrastructure.
The company has acquired BharatSahAIyak, a niche player focused on AI-driven public sector solutions, from tech consulting firm Samagra. While the deal value remains undisclosed, the intent is clear—Krutrim is ready to go beyond the lab and into the heart of real-world governance, healthcare, and education systems.
Founded in 2023, Krutrim has been building a full-stack AI ecosystem, from foundational models to deployment-ready solutions in speech, vision, and Indian languages. This acquisition equips it with an on-ground execution arm, giving it sharper access to grassroots implementations, especially in collaboration with government bodies.
A spokesperson from Ola Krutrim shared:
“This integration enhances our ability to build AI that is inclusive, intuitive, and deeply rooted in the lived realities of India.”
For a company that recently announced big bets like Krutrim AI Lab, BharatBench, and a $1.2B commitment toward scaling AI infrastructure—this move signals a shift from ambition to acceleration.
Of course, the journey isn’t without its turbulence. The acquisition coincides with the exit of three senior leaders, including Head of Engineering Dinesh Mittal, Sr. Director John Williamson, and Director of Applied AI Sharath Adavanne. While the leadership shake-up raises eyebrows, Krutrim’s roadmap remains ambitious: 1 GW of data center capacity by 2028 and an AI stack that speaks the language of every Indian.
With this acquisition, Krutrim seems to be doubling down on building “AI for Bharat”—not just as a slogan, but as a reality.
