Riding Ahead: Oben Electric Gears Up with ₹50 Cr Boost to Accelerate India’s EV Revolution

In India’s rapidly shifting mobility landscape, Bengaluru-based startup Oben Electric is riding a powerful wave. The electric motorcycle manufacturer has raised an additional ₹50 crore (~$6 million) in an extended Series A round, pushing its total Series A funding to ₹100 crore and overall capital raised to a solid ₹200 crore (~$24 million).

The fresh round, which closed in May 2025, saw enthusiastic participation from both new and returning investors, including Helios Holdings, the Sharda family office, and the Kay family.

For Oben, this funding isn’t just about capital—it’s about momentum. The company is now gearing up to expand to over 150 showrooms across 50 cities by FY26, scale up production at its Jigani-based Bengaluru facility, and accelerate R&D through its new ‘O100’ platform—a product initiative aimed at delivering affordable electric motorcycles priced under ₹1 lakh.

Founded in 2020 by Madhumita Agrawal, Sagar Thakkar, and Dinkar Agrawal, Oben Electric has taken a refreshingly integrated approach to EV manufacturing. Rather than rely on third-party vendors, the company builds almost everything in-house—from batteries and motors to vehicle control units and home fast chargers.

Since its initial $6 million Series A close in January, Oben has hit the ground running. The company now boasts 37 retail outlets across 26 cities in 13 states, and plans to deepen its reach into Tier II and Tier III markets in the months ahead.

“Our investors see what we see: a growing appetite for clean, efficient, and proudly Indian EVs,” said Madhumita Agrawal, Co-founder and CEO. “This extended Series A is a strong vote of confidence—and it comes at a moment when our growth is accelerating nationwide.”

At the heart of Oben’s strategy is deep R&D and full vertical integration—a sharp contrast to many EV players still dependent on imports and third-party tech. The company holds 25+ patents and operates with a tightly-knit supply chain of over 150 vendors, enabling tighter cost control and greater design freedom.

Oben Electric finds itself in an increasingly competitive space, rubbing shoulders with startups like Tork Motors and traditional auto giants exploring electric two-wheelers. But Oben’s commitment to owning its technology, localizing its production, and targeting affordability gives it a distinct edge.

With big plans and fresh funding, Oben Electric is not just building motorcycles—it’s laying the foundation for a smarter, cleaner future on Indian roads.
