FAME Marks Milestone: Empowering 50,000+ Rural Women Entrepreneurs Across India

The Foundation for Advancement of Micro Enterprises (FAME) has reached a remarkable milestone, having supported over 50,000 rural women entrepreneurs while enabling more than 2 lakh micro enterprises across India. Operating in 200 villages across 20 districts in Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana, FAME is reshaping livelihoods and promoting gender inclusion at the grassroots level.

By going “beyond financing,” FAME’s model integrates skill-building, mentorship, and market access, enabling women to thrive in sectors such as footwear, dairy, sports goods, and kirana businesses. This holistic approach has not only generated financial independence but also created stronger community ties in traditionally underserved areas.

Speaking on the achievement, Mr. Brij Mohan, Chairman of FAME and former Executive Director of SIDBI, said:
“We are proud to have reached over 50,000 women entrepreneurs in record time. This milestone reaffirms our mission of driving meaningful livelihood opportunities and social impact. FAME is committed to continuing its journey of enabling dignity, financial empowerment, and inclusion across India.”

The impact is evident:

  • 70% of beneficiaries report a rise in income, averaging between Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 5,000 per month.

  • 90% confirm sustained livelihood support post-training.

  • 88% highlight stronger social recognition, gender inclusion, and community participation.

One such example is Rubina from Agra, who joined the Shoe Artisan Program. “Before FAME, I lacked both skills and opportunities. Today, I not only earn an income but also enjoy respect in my community. FAME has given me confidence and the power to support my family,” she shared.

Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), FAME continues to expand its footprint by building partnerships and scaling programs that deliver long-term livelihood solutions. With dedicated field officers, veterinary doctors, and trainers, the foundation ensures sustainability and measurable impact in every community it serves.
