Shivani Solanki currently works as a Sub-Editor at Indian Startup Times, where she contributes to editorial work related to the startup ecosystem. Her journey into the media industry reflects a process of learning, exploring new opportunities, and gaining practical experience. Through her work at Indian Startup Times, she has had the opportunity to understand how digital media operates while also gaining insights into the evolving startup ecosystem.
Shivani completed her Master’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Graphic Era Hill University, Dehradun, in 2025. Choosing this field was a personal decision driven by curiosity about media and a desire to step out of her comfort zone to explore a new professional direction.
The course provided exposure to multiple areas of media, including journalism, reporting, anchoring, photography, digital media, and video production. During her time in college, she worked on several practical assignments and projects, such as writing news articles, creating posters, producing news packages, photography assignments, and radio projects. She also worked on her dissertation, which strengthened her research and analytical skills. These experiences helped her understand the practical side of media production and improved her confidence in presenting ideas both on and off camera.
Before joining her current role, Shivani gained hands-on experience through internships and short-term roles with Samachar India, Inspiration PR N Events, Himalaya Plus, and MATV News. During this time, she took on responsibilities such as content writing, anchoring, reporting, voice-over work, and social media management. She also contributed to news videos, event coverage, and basic video editing using Adobe Premiere Pro, which gave her practical exposure to how digital newsrooms function.
Currently, at Indian Startup Times, her work focuses on editorial research, publishing content related to the startup ecosystem, and contributing to rewards and recognition initiatives that highlight professionals across industries.
A key part of her role involves conducting professional interviews with Legal Heads (General Counsels) and Principal Architects. These interactions have provided opportunities to learn directly from experienced professionals about their careers, challenges, and perspectives in their respective fields.
Through her work, Shivani has gained a deeper understanding of the startup ecosystem and the broader business landscape. The role has also helped her develop important skills such as communication, research, and professional networking. Interacting with industry leaders has been a valuable learning experience, as many of their journeys reflect dedication, passion, and years of hard work.
Working in media requires adaptability, as the industry continues to evolve with new platforms, formats, and audiences. Each experience, whether it involves writing, research, or conducting interviews, contributes to building a stronger understanding of the field.
While her professional journey is still in its early stages, the experiences so far have allowed her to explore different areas of media and journalism. Each role has added to her learning and provided a clearer perspective on how media connects people, stories, and industries.
As she continues to grow in the field, Shivani remains open to learning and exploring new opportunities, particularly within media and the startup ecosystem, while further developing her skills and contributing to meaningful media work.
