BharatPe Taps Pine Labs Veteran Himanshu Verma to Lead POS Vertical

Fintech leader BharatPe has announced the appointment of Himanshu Verma as the Head of its Point of Sale (POS) business, signaling a strategic push to dominate the offline merchant payment landscape.

Verma joins the company with over 20 years of experience in the payments, telecom, and consumer technology sectors. He most recently served as Senior Director and National Business Head for Soundbox (Mini) at Pine Labs, where he was instrumental in the product’s market scale-up. His career also includes significant stints at Freecharge, Bharti Airtel, Samsung India, and Vodafone.

Strategic Growth in Offline Payments

In his new role, Verma is tasked with spearheading BharatPe’s POS division, specifically focusing on:

  • Accelerating merchant acquisition strategies.

  • Expanding the company’s distribution network.

  • Scaling integrated offline payment solutions for retail businesses.

The move comes at a critical time as BharatPe looks to solidify its footprint beyond QR codes. While the company is a heavyweight in the UPI space—processing over 450 million transactions monthly—its POS business already handles an annual transaction value exceeding Rs 27,000 crore across a fleet of 1.25 lakh devices.

“The appointment reflects our commitment to strengthening our offline infrastructure as we see continued, robust adoption of digital payments among small merchants and traditional retail hubs,” the company noted regarding the leadership change.

Since its inception in 2018, BharatPe has built a massive ecosystem serving over 1.7 crore merchants across 450 cities. By bringing in a veteran with deep expertise in hardware-led fintech solutions, the company aims to bridge the gap between digital UPI offerings and physical storefront infrastructure.
