Bio-manufacturing startup Genexis Biotech has secured ₹4 crore in a seed funding round led by early-stage venture capital firm GVFL, with additional participation from Benzai10. The funding marks a significant milestone for the Vadodara-based company as it accelerates its mission to redefine ethical and scalable biomolecule production.
The raised capital will be deployed to scale bioreactor capacity, enhance downstream processing infrastructure, and launch new recombinant proteins and enzymes. Genexis also aims to bolster its compliance, sales, and distribution functions as it prepares for broader market entry.
Genexis Biotech specializes in animal-origin-free recombinant proteins, developed through precision fermentation. Its offerings cater to industries including biopharma, food-tech, and cell culture. The company currently operates a Class 10,000 certified facility and is in the process of establishing a GMP-compliant manufacturing unit.
Among its product portfolio, Genexis has launched recombinant peptidases such as amino peptidase and enterokinase, with plans to introduce recombinant transferrin and albumin in the near future.
Over the past year, the startup has made significant strides—forming partnerships with pharmaceutical and biotech firms, signing an MoU with the Government of Gujarat, and securing orders for alternative protein formulations. It also showcased its innovations at Global Bio-India 2024, signaling its intent to enter the regulated biotech export market and expand into sectors like cosmetics through encapsulated formulations.
Additionally, Genexis is actively exploring collaborations with Contract Development and Manufacturing Organizations (CDMOs), academic labs, and biopharma companies to broaden its impact and research footprint.
