Sustainable materials startup UKHI has raised ₹10.5 crore in a seed funding round led by Venture Catalysts, with participation from 100 Unicorns, 888 VC, and DCG Pack, its strategic industrial partner. The fresh capital will be deployed to scale production of EcoGran, the company’s flagship biopolymer line, further strengthen its formulation and process intellectual property, and deepen partnerships across the packaging value chain.
Founded in 2019 by Vishal Vivek, Priyanka Chauhan, and Sandeep Kumar Tyagi, UKHI is an IP-led biomaterials company focused on developing sustainable and compostable alternatives to conventional plastics. The startup leverages agricultural residues and lignocellulosic biomass to produce high-performance, bio-based packaging materials, aiming to accelerate India’s transition toward a circular economy.
UKHI’s patent-pending technology is designed to be scalable, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible, enabling brands to reduce dependence on petroleum-based plastics without compromising on durability, strength, or functionality.
Within just six months, the company says it has built a commercially viable biopolymer platform, developed proprietary material IP, and begun market adoption across India’s packaging ecosystem. Its materials are engineered to replace conventional plastics while remaining compatible with existing manufacturing infrastructure, a critical factor for industry-wide adoption.
The company has already achieved commercial revenues within months of scaling, secured large anchor clients, and sold over two lakh kilograms of biopolymer material to early customers. Over the next 12 months, UKHI plans to replace up to 24 lakh kilograms of single-use plastic.
Notably, the startup reports over 90% trial-to-commercial conversion across customer pilots, signalling strong product-market fit and increasing demand for sustainable packaging alternatives.
With fresh funding and growing traction, UKHI is positioning itself as a key player in India’s evolving sustainable materials and circular economy ecosystem.
