EV charging technology startup RoadGrid has secured ₹13 crore in financial assistance from the Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science and Technology (DST) to support a ₹27.5 crore manufacturing project for its patented Universal EV Charger.
The funding will be used to establish a dedicated manufacturing and assembly facility, marking a significant step in the company’s efforts to scale indigenous EV charging infrastructure in India.
Manufacturing Facility to Begin Production in 2027
According to the company, the upcoming facility will have an annual production capacity of 2,000 Universal EV Chargers, with commercial manufacturing expected to commence in March 2027.
The project is aimed at strengthening domestic production capabilities while supporting the growing demand for electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the country.
Building a Universal Charging Solution
Founded in 2020, RoadGrid develops EV charging hardware, software, and energy management solutions for the electric mobility ecosystem.
Its patented Universal EV Charger is designed to support multiple vehicle segments including electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger vehicles, and commercial EVs through a single charging platform, offering greater flexibility for fleet operators and charging infrastructure providers.
Focus on Indigenous Manufacturing
The company said the new facility will manufacture and assemble key components, including power electronics, thermal management systems, communication modules, control hardware, and metering systems.
RoadGrid plans to utilize locally manufactured components as part of its production process, supporting India’s push for domestic manufacturing and reducing dependence on imported technologies.
The project is also expected to generate more than 100 employment opportunities as operations scale.
Expanding Enterprise Partnerships
RoadGrid currently employs over 40 professionals and has deployed more than 100 EV chargers, while managing over 200 charging points across its network.
The startup serves six enterprise customers and has established partnerships with companies including VinFast, HPCL, and IOCL, reflecting its growing presence in India’s EV charging ecosystem.
Building on Recent Fundraising
Earlier this year, RoadGrid raised ₹12 crore in a Pre-Series A funding round led by Venture Catalysts to accelerate product development, manufacturing capabilities, and charging infrastructure deployment.
The latest support from the Technology Development Board further strengthens the company’s manufacturing roadmap and complements its recent fundraising efforts.
Targeting ₹100 Crore Annual Revenue
RoadGrid expects the new manufacturing facility to generate approximately ₹100 crore in annual revenue at an initial production level of 1,000 chargers.
As India’s electric vehicle adoption continues to accelerate, the company aims to expand domestic manufacturing capacity while contributing to the development of reliable, locally built EV charging infrastructure for both public and commercial mobility networks.
