Pet Food Startup Zoomies Raises ₹5 Cr Pre-Seed Round to Build Clean, Affordable Nutrition for Pets in India

Emerging pet food startup Zoomies has raised ₹5 crore in a pre-seed funding round led by D2C Insider Super Angels, with participation from a marquee group of founders and operators, including Pallavi Mohadikar, Co-founders of Unacademy, Gaurav Munjal & Roman Saini, CEO of Astrotalk, Puneet Gupta and Others.

Founded in September 2025, Zoomies is the brainchild of Sumedh Battewar, former Co-founder and Chief Business Officer at EMotorad, and co-founder Spriha Choubey. The startup aims to build a nutrition-first pet food brand offering meals made from 100% real, human-grade meat, free from additives, preservatives, and synthetic supplements.

Addressing a Gap in the Pet Food Market

India’s pet food market is growing rapidly, nearly twice as fast as the traditional FMCG sector, driven by increasing pet ownership and a stronger focus on pet health. However, much of the current market is dominated by ultra-processed products with limited transparency in ingredients.

Zoomies is trying to change that by offering clean-label, transparent, and affordable pet food options, while maintaining a long shelf life of up to 18 months.

How the Funds Will Be Used

The newly raised capital will be used to:

  • Strengthen manufacturing and supply chain operations

  • Invest in brand-building and influencer-led campaigns

  • Expand distribution through quick commerce platforms

  • Scale its Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) presence and launch on Amazon

The company is also planning expansion across major cities including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai.

Product and Pricing Strategy

Zoomies is launching with a full range of cat food products and a limited selection for dogs. Its pricing strategy is designed to cater to both mass-market consumers and premium buyers, including products using freeze-dried technology.

Each product pack includes a QR code linked to lab reports, ensuring transparency and quality assurance. The products are palatability-tested and made with real meat without synthetic additives or vitamins.

Founders’ Vision

Speaking about the vision, Sumedh Battewar said that pet nutrition in India has long been seen as either premium or niche, and Zoomies aims to break that perception by making clean, high-quality nutrition both scalable and affordable.

Spriha Choubey added that the idea for Zoomies came from their own experience as pet parents, where they noticed a clear gap between what they wanted to feed their pets and what was available in the market.

Investor Perspective

Chhavi Bhardwaj Kargaonkar from D2C Insider Super Angels highlighted the team’s strong execution focus and noted that the pet nutrition space in India is ready for innovation, especially in the clean-label segment.
