MS Dhoni Invests in Digital Insurance Firm Acko, Becomes Brand Ambassador

Former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has made a strategic investment in digital insurance startup Acko through his family office, Midas Deals, the company announced on Wednesday. While the financial details of the investment remain undisclosed, Acko confirmed that Dhoni will also serve as the brand ambassador for the platform.

Founded in 2016 by Varun Dua and Ruchi Deepak, Acko is India’s first digital-native insurance provider. It offers a wide portfolio of insurance products across auto, health, travel, and group health insurance, delivering them through a zero-commission, paperless, and instant-claim settlement model. The platform has gained a strong foothold in embedded insurance categories, offering gadget and mobility insurance through partnerships with over 50 digital brands including Oyo, Zomato, redBus, Urban Company, and HDB Financial Services.

To date, Acko claims to have issued over 1 billion policies and served more than 78 million customers, making it one of the largest digital insurance providers in India.

In terms of financial performance, Acko reported a 19.8% revenue growth in FY24, crossing the Rs 2,000 crore mark with Rs 2,106 crore in revenue, up from Rs 1,758 crore in FY23.

The company has raised over $458 million in funding to date, including a $255 million Series D round led by General Atlantic in 2021, which propelled it to unicorn status. General Atlantic currently holds the largest external stake in the company at 10.7%, followed by Accel Partners and Elevation Capital.

Dhoni’s association with Acko is expected to further strengthen the brand’s connect with consumers and broaden its reach across India’s growing digital insurance market.
