Kolkata-based men’s ethnicwear brand Kisah Apparels has raised ₹13 crore (approximately $1.52 million) in a pre-Series A funding round led by Wow! Momo founder Sagar Daryani, with participation from Apoorv Salarpuria, Rahul Todi, Vinod Dugar, and Inflection Point Ventures.
The capital will be used to scale the company’s offline presence, grow its direct-to-consumer (D2C) operations, and invest in brand-building initiatives, the company said in a press statement.
Founded in 2018 by Yash Sarawagi and Yashwi Ladasaria, Kisah focuses on high-fashion ethnicwear for Gen Z and millennial consumers. Starting with a marketplace-first model, the brand is now transitioning into an omnichannel strategy. It currently runs two retail outlets, with three more stores set to launch in major Indian cities.
“E-commerce gave us pan-India reach and deep customer insights, which are now fueling our D2C and offline growth—backed by data, customer pull, and positive cash flow at the company level,” said Yash Sarawagi, Co-founder and CEO.
The company has developed internal analytics systems to leverage data from its marketplace and D2C channels, which inform key business decisions—from product design to supply chain and marketing strategies. According to the founders, Kisah has grown from ₹40–45 crore to a run rate of over ₹100 crore, while maintaining a positive operating cash flow and profitability at the PAT level.
Kisah aims to continue building a national brand by modernizing ethnicwear and making it more accessible to young Indian consumers through both digital and physical touchpoints.
