Imarticus Learning Acquires MyCaptain for ₹50 Cr to Power Passion-Driven Careers in Tier 2 & 3 Cities

In a bold step to tap into India’s emerging talent landscape, professional education firm Imarticus Learning has acquired edtech startup MyCaptain for ₹50 crore (approximately $6 million). This marks Imarticus’ fourth acquisition in the last four years as it strengthens its mission to bridge the skills gap in India’s rapidly evolving job market.

Founded in 2016 by Mohammed Zeeshan, Sameer Ramesh, and Ruhan Naqash, MyCaptain has carved a niche in India’s edtech space by enabling students to pursue careers aligned with their passions — from digital marketing and design to content creation and entrepreneurship. Its model of pairing learners with young, successful mentors has resonated across 1,500+ college campuses, especially in tier 2 and 3 cities.

Nearly 60% of MyCaptain’s users come from these smaller towns, and over 80% belong to creative or entrepreneurial fields — a segment often underserved by traditional education and upskilling platforms. The startup raised $4.7 million from investors including Ankur Capital, Inflection Point Ventures, Firstport Ventures, and the Singapore Angel Network. Last year, it posted ₹27 crore in revenue and achieved EBITDA breakeven — a strong indicator of business viability.

“This acquisition isn’t just about scaling — it’s about direction,” said Nikhil Barshikar, Founder and CEO of Imarticus Learning. “While our previous acquisitions helped us diversify our offerings, with MyCaptain, we’re doubling down on making non-tech career pathways more accessible and relevant, especially for learners in Bharat.”

Imarticus plans to integrate MyCaptain’s popular employability bootcamps into its 20+ physical centres across 16 cities, expanding access to practical training in fields like digital marketing, content, and design — areas seeing explosive demand in the creator economy.

The acquisition also brings MyCaptain’s founding team into the Imarticus fold, enriching the senior leadership with entrepreneurial flair and youth-centric insight. The combined team now boasts over 850 employees.

This move comes on the heels of Imarticus’ earlier acquisitions — game-based learning platform StratOnBoard in 2022, social learning startup Eckovation in 2021, and Hero Mindmine from the Hero Group in April 2023. Each has added a unique dimension to Imarticus’ learning ecosystem, but MyCaptain may be the most culturally aligned of them all — built on the belief that education must ignite passion, not just productivity.

With sights now set on reaching 5 million learners in the next three years, Imarticus Learning is stitching together an ambitious blueprint for the future of career education — one where passion meets employability, and learners from every corner of India get a fair shot at success.
