Deep-tech startup AquaAirX has raised Rs 12.5 crore in a seed funding round led by Rainmatter, the investment arm of Zerodha, founded by Nithin Kamath. AquaAirX said the funding will be used to strengthen its core technology, particularly improving system autonomy, the reliability of air-to-water transitions, and its sensing and communication capabilities. The company also plans to expand its engineering and research teams across areas such as robotics, autonomy, control systems, and embedded technology.
Founded in 2024 by Jitendra Kumar Purnmal Saini and Gouthami T S, Bengaluru-based AquaAirX is a deep-tech startup focused on building advanced autonomous robotic systems for defence and high-value commercial use. The startup is working on amphibious drones that can smoothly shift from flying in the air to operating underwater, along with a proprietary Hovering Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (HAUV).
AquaAirX says its technology brings together advanced robotics, autonomy, and mission-driven design to address key challenges in maritime intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance. By doing so, it aims to make operations safer, faster, and more cost-effective. The startup works closely with defence and strategic partners and aligns its efforts with India’s push for home-grown, future-ready defence technologies.
Going forward, AquaAirX plans to strengthen partnerships with defence organisations in India and abroad, conduct large-scale trials, and begin preparations for manufacturing. The company is targeting entry into defence and commercial markets by 2027. Over the past year, it has reached Technology Readiness Level 6 for its main amphibious platform.
