Introduction
Codemate AI was founded in 2022 by Ayush Singhal with a vision to take a different path in an AI ecosystem dominated by cloud-based tools and third-party models. Today, the company has grown and done justice to its vision and is serving over 100,000 users who belong to different industries like healthcare, finance and banking to name a few. Ayush Singhal attributes the growth of the company to his entire team and specially thanks his Co-Founder and CTO Kshitij Tyagi and his Chief of Staff Shama Ahlawat. In this conversation, Ayush Singhal candidly sheds light on the journey of both his company as a startup and him as a founder.
CodeMateAI’s USP
CodeMateAI provides an Agentic AI coding tool focused on enterprises and regulated industries. The platform automates the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC) from ideation to deployment in as low as 10-15 minutes. Codemate’s USP is hosting its proprietary AI models entirely on clients’ premises, ensuring data privacy for all users. The tagline of the company “Grammarly for Programmers” is apt because CodeMate can be used by developers and non-developers alike. Ayush Singhal shared with Indian Startup Times how a recent user, who was an owner of an NGO from Spain, used CodeMate successfully despite not knowing English. CodeMateAI just needs the user to feed in their domain based knowledge and it will take care of the rest and provide a fully working code and live link that can be iterated.
Learnings from Startup Events
CodeMateAI recently participated in Pitch Point, an AI startup competition backed by L&T finance and emerged as one of the top 5 finalists. Ayush Singhal shared that every startup especially in its early stage should participate in such events to gain the validation and confidence to articulate their ideas and present them to a diverse audience. These events also help startups understand what they are lacking, while the cross questioning from jury members who are experts in their field help develop foolproof products or services. Finally, these events serve as the best platform for visibility and marketing.
Inspiring the Next Gen : CodeMate for Education
CodeMate for Education was born from the motive to dispel all myths and assumptions that the presence of AI is a threat to developers and students of computer science. The company has partnered with various colleges and universities across India to run hackathons, workshops, and management development programs and aims to teach students how to effectively use AI tools while understanding their limitations and capabilities. Codemate’s educational efforts align with its broader mission to equip early career professionals with AI knowledge and enable them to create software without barriers. This initiative supports skill development in emerging areas like edge computing and responsible AI, preparing the workforce for future demands.
AI at its Best, Without the Threat
In a world where there are increasing conversations around the dangers and threats of AI, CodeMate is built to be human-like and efficient but still wait for manual critical commands from a developer. Major data is not deleted or modified without asking the user first and most of the architecture is designed keeping safety in mind. CodeMateAI adheres to policies and guardrails to be followed during software development and constant tweaks are made on the model architecture to ensure safety. Finally, any organization using CodeMate is free to add their own policies and guidelines and customize them at any given point to mitigate any misuse.
The Future of CodeMateAI
The company and its founders aim to deepen enterprise workflow integrations and make its AI platform fully operational offline on edge devices. This vision addresses market needs for secure, cost-effective software development tools free from cloud and third-party dependencies. Additionally, they are also optimistic about expanding the Codemate for Education program to help grow the talent pool and promote responsible AI adoption in the industry.
Personal Journey and Advice to Youth
Ayush shared that he sees striking changes in himself as a founder as compared to when he was an employee. As a founder, he has developed a strong sense of ownership and accountability. He also notices that he is more open to taking risks now and is equipped with the capability to manage them. As a founder, the biggest challenge he has faced is something as simple as change. He says that his industry, like every industry, is dynamic and what is relevant today may not be relevant tomorrow. Newer technology will always emerge but that should not stop one from innovating. His final advice to the youth is to be in it for the long haul and not get demotivated at the lack of instant results. Be consistent and persistent to see the compounding effect.
