Building Excellence with Empathy: An Insightful Conversation with Rashmi Mandal of RNT Designs

In a world of constantly shifting tastes and design trends, few firms manage to hold their ground with equal parts innovation, empathy, and execution. RNT Designs is one such name that has quietly but confidently carved a niche in the architecture and interior design space. At the heart of this journey is Rashmi Mandal—Co-Founder of RNT Designs—whose thoughtful leadership and client-first philosophy continue to shape spaces that aren’t just beautiful but deeply meaningful.

I had the pleasure of catching up with Rashmi for a candid conversation about her design ethos, the changing face of architecture in India, and the stories behind some of RNT’s proudest moments.

Designing with Purpose and Personality

Right from the beginning, Rashmi’s perspective on design felt refreshingly grounded. “No two projects are ever the same,” she shared with a smile. “We treat each space as a blank canvas, carefully listening to the client’s needs before picking up the brush.”

This tailored approach, she explained, lies at the core of RNT Designs’ philosophy. For her, building trust is as crucial as building spaces. “We don’t just design; we co-create. And that makes all the difference.”

Navigating Trends and Misconceptions

Our conversation naturally flowed into the challenges of practicing architecture in today’s hyper-visual age. Social media, Rashmi noted, has been both a boon and a bane.

“Clients come in with Pinterest boards and Instagram aesthetics,” she laughed, “but often without a deeper understanding of design functionality.” That’s where she believes architects need to step in—not just as creators, but as educators. “It’s our job to guide clients toward solutions that not only look good but work well for their space and goals.”

She also touched on the positive shifts she’s witnessing—like the growing interest in sustainability and community-driven design. “It’s no longer just about luxury. People are slowly opening up to the idea of responsible design.”

A Taste of Success: From Airports to Presidential Suites

When asked about projects that stand out, Rashmi fondly recalled their work at Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal, where RNT Designs was tasked with the interior design of Horizon Lounge which was previously a Thai restaurant. “We completed it in just three months. The challenge was to increase profitability through smarter space planning, and I’m proud to say we delivered.”
The success of that project opened new doors, quite literally—with the firm going on to design presidential suite, Royal suites and corporate offices for Nepal’s Soaltee Group of Hotels, Kathmandu. “Those kinds of milestones keep reminding us why we do what we do,” she reflected.

Looking Ahead: Beyond Design

RNT Designs isn’t slowing down anytime soon. The team is actively exploring new frontiers—including turnkey solutions and exhibition stall designs. But amid all the growth, Rashmi remains committed to a simple but powerful principle: transparency.

“Clients don’t just need solutions; they need partners who are honest with them,” she emphasized. “We always communicate the challenges, the scope, and the possibilities upfront. That’s how lasting relationships are built.”

Architects as Stewards of Space

Before we wrapped up, Rashmi offered a perspective that lingered long after our chat ended. “Architects are like doctors for buildings,” she said thoughtfully. “We’re responsible not just to our clients, but to society and the environment.”

For her, design must balance form and function, beauty and utility. “It has to work—for people, for nature, and for the long term.”

Final Thoughts

Conversations like these remind us that the best design isn’t about trends or grand gestures—it’s about understanding people. Rashmi Mandal’s approach is a testament to the power of empathy in architecture. With vision, integrity, and a deep-rooted commitment to clients, RNT Designs is not just creating spaces—they’re building trust, one project at a time.

We thank Rashmi for sharing her journey with Indian Startup Times. Her thoughtful insights offer a window into what it truly means to build excellence—with heart, with honesty, and with lasting impact.
