India’s wellness industry is in the middle of a quiet revolution. Amid the noise of apps, supplements, and fitness gear, one founder is building something more intimate — a product that transforms the most mundane act of daily life into a wellness ritual.
In this conversation with Indian Startup Times, Pravir opens up about his journey from corporate real estate to entrepreneurship, the rise of hydro wellness in India, and how SteamPRO is redefining the modern bathing experience.
From Corporate Comfort to Entrepreneurial Calling
A graduate of Delhi University’s College of Business Studies, Pravir Chadha began his career at CB Richard Ellis (CBRE), one of the world’s leading real estate consulting firms. Working with high-profile clients gave him exposure to structured business environments—but something was missing.
That “something” led him back to his roots: his family’s wellness business.
“I come from a second-generation entrepreneurial background,” Pravir shares. “Our family business was already working with top hospitality players in the spa and hydro therapies domain. But I saw a much larger opportunity beyond luxury spaces.”
That realization became the foundation for SteamPRO.
The Billion-Dollar Gap Nobody Was Filling
“We’ve overcomplicated wellness by creating new habits. The real opportunity is embedding it into habits people already have—like bathing”, he explains.
Walk into any five-star hotel in India and you’ll find a steam and sauna room tucked near the pool. But step into the average Indian home, and it’s nowhere to be found. That contradiction — wellness as a luxury exclusive — is the exact gap Pravir has spent years closing.
Steam and Sauna therapy, already mainstream across Europe, South East Asia, and North America, remained a luxury amenity in India. SteamPRO was built to dismantle that barrier.
The company focuses on technology-led steam and sauna bath systems designed for modern homes, making wellness accessible, efficient, and science-backed. Instead of positioning itself as just another wellness product company, SteamPRO aims to enhance the bathing experience itself.
“Our goal is simple—turn your everyday shower into a wellness ritual.”
Science-Backed Wellness for Modern India
Steam therapy isn’t just about relaxation—it comes with measurable health benefits.
According to Pravir, regular steam bathing can promote:
- 25% drop in Cortisol in a single session to reduce stress levels
- 47% decrease in heart diseases if done regularly
- 11% increase in lung capacity in a single session
- 16X Increase in HGH & HSP leading to increased longevity
“In a high-stress & polluted environment like India, wellness solutions need to be both effective and conveniently placed to drive up usability and regularity, i.e. the home bathroom,” he says. “That’s where SteamPRO fits in.”
The Early Challenges of Building a Hardware Brand
Building a hardware startup in India is no easy feat—especially in a category like bath-tech and wellness.
“People thought we were crazy. Why would anyone install a steam system at home? For the first year, we were building a category that didn’t exist”, Pravir admits.
Convincing customers required more than marketing—it required education, trust-building, and product differentiation.
The turning point came during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The pandemic made people more conscious about their health. Suddenly, wellness at home became a priority—and that validated what we were building.”
The Shark Tank Effect
SteamPRO’s appearance on Shark Tank India proved to be a major catalyst.
“We went on Shark Tank primarily for awareness,” Pravir says. “We got sold out within 24 hours of the episode airing! Overnight, SteamPRO went from a niche product to a nationwide curiosity.. ”
The exposure not only boosted brand visibility but also accelerated customer interest and business growth, positioning SteamPRO as a recognized player in the wellness space.
Funding, Growth, and What’s Next
The company has already raised ₹3.8 crore from the likes of Anicut Capital, D2C Insider, Zero Pearl and Atrium Ventures, and is now preparing for its next fundraising round to fuel expansion.
The roadmap ahead is ambitious:
- Expansion across India beyond Delhi NCR
- Global market exploration
- New product lines, including electric and infrared saunas
- Stronger distribution and sales channels
“We’re building SteamPRO not just as a product company, but as a wellness experience brand,” Pravir explains.
Scaling from India to the World
SteamPRO’s vision goes far beyond being a regional success.
“Our goal is to scale from a Delhi NCR brand to an all-India brand—and eventually go global,” Pravir says.
The company is actively working on:
- Adding new features across product lines
- Making wellness outcomes more measurable
- Exploring new channels and partnerships
“We’re being aggressive about growth because the opportunity is massive.”
The Future of Wellness in India
Pravir is confident that India’s wellness industry is at an inflection point.
“With increasing awareness, people are investing more in their health,” he notes. “We’re also seeing consumer brands shift toward healthier, more sustainable offerings.”
In this evolving landscape, SteamPRO is carving a niche by focusing on daily wellness integration—starting with the most routine activity of all: bathing.
Final Thoughts
From corporate boardrooms to bathroom innovation, Pravir Chadha’s journey reflects a deeper shift in India’s startup ecosystem—where founders are not just building businesses, but redefining lifestyles.
As SteamPRO continues to expand, one thing is clear:
the future of wellness may begin right at home—and right in your shower.
