BigBasket Taps Former Google Pay Executive Arpit Jaiswal as Chief Growth Officer

BigBasket, the Tata-owned grocery major, has officially appointed Arpit Jaiswal as its Chief Growth Officer (CGO). The move signals a strategic shift for the e-commerce giant as it prioritizes a leaner, more data-driven approach to market dominance and long-term profitability.

Expanding the Leadership Bench

In his new capacity, Jaiswal is tasked with overseeing a comprehensive growth mandate. This includes:

  • User Lifecycle Management: Driving aggressive user acquisition and improving long-term retention.

  • Market Expansion: Scaling BigBasket’s footprint across its existing 60+ cities, with a specific focus on emerging Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets.

  • Monetization & Product: Working alongside cross-functional teams to refine product-led growth and optimize P&L efficiency.

From Fintech to Foodtech

Jaiswal joins the grocery leader following a successful tenure at Google Pay, where he served as Head of Growth and Group Product Manager. During his time there, he was credited with scaling user acquisition through high-impact partnerships and AI-driven interventions, all while maintaining a disciplined focus on operational expenditure (OpEx).

His background in fintech—specifically in high-frequency transaction environments—is expected to be a major asset for BigBasket as it navigates the competitive quick-commerce and grocery sectors.

“BigBasket has established a strong platform in a category that is becoming increasingly important in everyday life,” Jaiswal stated. “I aim to contribute during this phase of growth and work with the team to further enhance customer value, scale, and operational efficiency.”

The Road Ahead

The appointment comes at a critical juncture for BigBasket. With a massive catalog of 30,000 products and a logistics backbone of 850 dark stores, the company is no longer just focused on reach but on “profitable growth.”

By bringing in a growth leader with a heavy emphasis on data and AI, BigBasket aims to sharpen its competitive edge against rivals in an increasingly crowded delivery landscape.
