Visakhapatnam, October 8, 2025: Google is set to make its largest-ever direct investment in India’s digital infrastructure, planning a $10 billion data centre cluster in and around Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
The ambitious project will span three campuses in Adavivaram, Tarluvada, and Rambilli, with a total power capacity of 1 gigawatt. Key infrastructure developments will include laying three submarine cables, constructing cable landing stations, and deploying high-capacity fiber and telecom networks. Google aims to have the data centres fully operational by July 2028.
The investment deal is expected to be formalized during a meeting between top Google executives and Andhra Pradesh IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh in New Delhi on October 14.
The Visakhapatnam cluster will form part of India’s first AI Infrastructure Hub, a dedicated zone designed to accelerate advanced research, AI capabilities, and technology growth in the state and across the country.
Google had earlier signed a memorandum of understanding with the Andhra Pradesh government in December 2024, following a change in the state’s leadership. The state is also working on amending data-related laws to facilitate the progress of large-scale digital projects.
Currently, Google operates data centres in 11 other countries, but the Visakhapatnam cluster will mark its first project of this scale in India.
