Empowering Early-Stage Founders: A Conversation with Sarita Raichura, Director at Blume Ventures

Indian Startup Times has rapidly emerged as a trusted platform for founders, investors, and ecosystem enablers looking to stay informed and connected. Through initiatives like PR Connect and VC Connect, the platform has been instrumental in creating opportunities for early-stage startups to gain visibility and build meaningful relationships. In this exclusive interview, Sarita Raichura, Director at Blume Ventures, shares her journey from the corporate world to venture capital and offers insights on building supportive networks, collaborating with micro VCs, and empowering India’s next generation of founders.

The Journey from Intel to Blume Ventures

Sarita Raichura began her career in a corporate role at Intel but felt a strong pull towards India’s burgeoning startup ecosystem. Growing up in a business-oriented family, she developed an early appreciation for entrepreneurship, which later inspired her to join the Indian Angel Network. “That experience was invaluable,” she said. “It equipped me with the ability to evaluate startups and understand the needs of early-stage founders.”

Today, at Blume Ventures, Raichura leads the Blume Founders Fund and network programs, channeling those learnings into actionable support for founders across India.

Inside the Blume Founders Fund

The Blume Founders Fund focuses on early-stage investments, prioritizing referrals from trusted sources and offering more than just capital. Founders gain access to a comprehensive Startup Pack, which includes credits, resources, and introductions to key relationships. Onboarding programs such as Blume Velocity further support founders by fostering learning and community from day one.

“Raichura highlighted Blume Founders Fund’s hands-on support: arranging working-capital debt for Plush (clean, sustainable women’s wellness); facilitating Japanese investment into Unorg (enabling thela-walas in Uttar Pradesh); and linking WIFFY (B2B installation services) with Skillsroot to partner with the government on upskilling and placing carpenters, plumbers etc.”

Collaborating with Micro VCs and Super Angels

One of Blume’s distinguishing strategies is its collaboration with micro VCs and super angels. These partnerships enable the fund to reach niche markets—such as student-led ventures (working with Grad Capital) and Gen Z startups. (collaborating with Untitled ventures)—that it might not otherwise access. “It’s about sharing our learnings with emerging fund managers and creating a supportive ecosystem,” Raichura explained.

Building Communities for Founders and Executives

Raichura emphasized the importance of community in entrepreneurship. Under her leadership, Blume has launched initiatives like CXO communities, which bring together executives in similar roles—such as CTOs and CPOs—for peer-to-peer learning sessions. “These forums help founders and leaders stay ahead of industry trends and build trusted networks,” she said.

Blume’s Investment Philosophy

Blume Founders Fund is committed to backing startups that address India’s unique challenges while also aiming for global markets. Raichura pointed to unique stories like Octolife, which focuses on affordable, sustainable  air conditioning solutions, and WIOM, which seeks to make internet access more affordable. She also noted rising opportunities in deep tech and fintech, along with the fund’s ongoing initiatives to support women entrepreneurs.

Advice for Early-Stage Founders

When asked about the key factors that make a startup successful in its early stages, Raichura offered practical guidance:

  •     A+ founding team. Pick co-founders/early hires with complementary skills, shared values, and high trust. It’s a long journey—ensure these are folks who are mission oriented.
  •     ICP & painkiller product – Show you deeply understand who you serve and why they buy. Early proof helps —paying users, strong retention, short sales cycles, and a clear “why now.”
  •      Fast experimentation. Early stages are uncertain—ship, measure, iterate quickly.
  •      Crisp, transparent communication with investors. Share crisp data-driven updates (wins, misses, runway, and clear asks). This builds trust and ensure investors jump in and help whenever possible.

Conclusion

From her journey at Intel to shaping the future of early-stage investing at Blume Ventures, Sarita Raichura exemplifies the power of combining strategic capital with community-driven support. Her insights reflect a deep commitment to nurturing founders, building networks, and fostering innovation across India. With leaders like Raichura and platforms like Indian Startup Times working in tandem, the Indian startup ecosystem is poised to reach even greater heights.
