Carbon Masters India Raises Equity Funding to Expand Bio-CNG and Fertiliser Operations

Carbon Masters India, a climate-tech venture working at the intersection of waste management and renewable energy, has secured a fresh equity infusion from Schneider Electric Energy Access Asia (SEEAA), Sangam Ventures, and the IAN Group. The round also attracted participation from Sriram Sankaran of Synchron Group and Muthu Murugappan of Murugappa Group.

As part of the transaction, Vikram Raman (SEEAA) and Sriram Sankaran have joined the company’s Board of Directors, strengthening governance and sectoral expertise.

The funds will help scale up Carbonlites CBG (Compressed Bio-Methane Gas) production, grow its organic fertiliser portfolio, and expand capabilities across sales, marketing, and R&D.

Founded by Som Narayan and Kevin Houston, Carbon Masters transforms organic waste into renewable biomethane and bio-enriched organic manure. Its products, marketed under the Carbonlites brand, supply clean fuel to industries, commercial kitchens, transport fleets, and city gas networks, while also delivering sustainable soil solutions to farmers.

The company currently operates five CBG plants across Karnataka, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu, collectively processing more than 36,000 tonnes of municipal waste per year. Through its joint venture with Hasiru Dala Innovations (Sustainable Impacts), Carbon Masters runs one of Bengaluru’s only authorised wet waste facilities with pipeline clearance from GAIL, enabling direct injection of biomethane into India’s gas grid.

Looking ahead, the startup is preparing for its next equity round to fund five new SPVs, with Ostara Advisors appointed as transaction advisor.
