Tata Group-owned BigBasket is preparing for a major leadership change, with co-founder and CEO Hari Menon expected to step away from day-to-day operations.
Menon’s five-year term post-Tata Digital’s acquisition in 2021 is nearing completion, and he is currently working with the board to identify a successor.
The CEO search has been underway for months, and an appointment could be finalised soon. Tata Group is reportedly looking for a leader with strong execution capabilities to strengthen BigBasket’s position in the fast-growing quick commerce sector, where Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, and Zepto are leading the race.
Founded in 2011 by Hari Menon, VS Sudhakar, Vipul Parekh, Abhinay Choudhari, and VS Ramesh, BigBasket has seen several founder-level exits in recent years. Choudhari stepped down after the Tata deal, Sudhakar moved on earlier this year, while Parekh continues to head marketing and finance, and Ramesh leads logistics and supply chain.
The company has also been refreshing its leadership team. In July, it appointed Manish Bajoria, former CFO of Vini Cosmetics, as its new chief financial officer.
The transition marks a new chapter for BigBasket as it looks to expand aggressively in India’s rapidly evolving e-grocery and quick commerce market.
