“From Vision to Wardrobe: The Story of The Bear House”

In a fashion landscape dominated by seasonal trends and mass-produced styles, The Bear House has emerged as a refreshing alternative, creating elevated menswear that blends comfort, versatility, and timeless design. At the helm is Tanvi Somaiya, whose journey from celebrity styling to co-founding a thriving menswear brand is a story of vision, adaptability, and unrelenting passion for design.

The Beginning: Spotting the Gap in the Market

Tanvi’s fashion roots run deep. Armed with a degree in Fashion and Clothing Technology from NIFT Mumbai, she began her career assisting designers and styling celebrities, sharpening her eye for detail and style. Later, while managing sampling at Bloomcraft Apparels alongside her husband, Harsh Somaiya, she worked closely with global brands like Zara and Mango. This insider view revealed a glaring gap. India lacked high-quality, European-inspired menswear designed for the modern Indian man.

Recognising this opportunity, Tanvi envisioned The Bear House as a brand that marries smart design with everyday ease. What began as an idea soon took shape through a blend of creative instincts and hands-on manufacturing expertise.

Standing Out in a Crowded Market

Breaking into the competitive menswear space was no easy feat. But The Bear House carved its niche by focusing on minimal yet statement-worthy details, precision tailoring, and breathable fabrics. “Our customer values quality and is willing to pay for it,” Tanvi shares. “We create stylish pieces without trying too hard. Clothes you can wear for work, travel, or leisure without overthinking your wardrobe.”

Their design aesthetic is clean, contemporary, and functional, targeting the discerning urban man who appreciates both comfort and craftsmanship.

Design Philosophy: Story-Led and Customer-Centric

Tanvi remains deeply involved in the creative process, guiding each collection with a mood, theme, or narrative rather than following rigid fashion seasons. This approach gives The Bear House agility and emotional resonance, allowing the team to create capsule collections that feel timeless.

Product development starts and ends with the customer. “We design for how people live,” says Tanvi. “Each piece is priced thoughtfully, but quality is never compromised. We do not cut corners. Everything is carefully curated to feel elevated yet easy.”

From Indie Label to Recognised Brand

Scaling from a small indie label to a name recognised across major e-commerce platforms came with its challenges. Launching their own D2C website was a turning point, enabling the brand to control the customer journey, personalise experiences, and deepen loyalty.

Supply chain strategy also played a big role in growth. While Tanvi preferred a cautious approach, Harsh made bold production calls, one of which paid off with a significant sales surge. Today, The Bear House is available on Myntra, Ajio, Flipkart, Amazon, and in select stores across India, along with an international presence in the UAE. Their memorable debut on Shark Tank India further amplified visibility.

Leadership and Team Culture

At The Bear House, collaboration, creativity, and trust form the backbone of the workplace. Tanvi believes in empowering her team to go beyond defined roles, fostering a sense of shared ownership. Open communication, experimentation, and continuous learning are encouraged, creating a culture where both the brand and its people grow together.

Entrepreneurship, she says, has been her biggest teacher. “As leaders, we have learned resilience, empathy, and the power of trust. As creators, we have realised that creativity is not just design. It is problem-solving, staying relevant, and balancing aesthetics with purpose.”

What’s Next for The Bear House

The brand is now in an expansion phase, with stores in Hyderabad, Pune, and Bangalore, and 25 more planned this financial year. Internationally, they are strengthening their UAE presence and exploring new product innovations.

For aspiring entrepreneurs, Tanvi’s advice is clear. Trust your instincts. “Especially as a woman, do not let the fear of failure stop you. Sometimes your gut knows what trends or reports cannot tell you yet.”

Conclusion

From spotting a market gap to building a label that blends sophistication with everyday wearability, Tanvi Somaiya’s journey with The Bear House is a testament to what happens when creative vision meets entrepreneurial grit. As the brand continues to grow both in India and abroad, its core promise remains unchanged. To craft menswear that is timeless, well-made, and designed for the way modern men live.
